11:1 Եւ թագաւորն Եգիպտացւոց զօրաժողո՛վ լինէր` կուտէ՛ր զօրս բազումս իբրեւ զաւազ առ ափն ծովուն, եւ նա՛ւս բազումս. եւ խնդրէր նա ունե՛լ զարքայութիւնն Աղ՛էքսանդրեայ նենգութեամբ, եւ յաւելուլ յի՛ւր արքայութիւնն:

11:1 And the king of Egypt gathered together a great host, like the sand that lieth upon the sea shore, and many ships, and went about through deceit to get Alexander' s kingdom, and join it to his own:
|
11:2 Եւ ել ընդ կողմանս Ասորեստանեայց բանիւ խաղաղութեամբ. եւ նոքա դուռն բանային նմա, եւ ընդ առաջ երթային նորա. քանզի պատուէ՛ր էր յԱղ՛էքսանդրեայ արքայէ` քանզի անե՛ր էր նորա[293]:

11:2 Whereupon he took his journey into Spain in peaceable manner, so as they of the cities opened unto him, and met him: for king Alexander had commanded them so to do, because he was his brother in law:
|
11:3 Եւ իբրեւ մտանէր Պտղոմէոս ՛ի քաղաքսն, յիւրոց զօրացն պահապա՛ն թողոյր իւրաքանչիւր քաղաքաց[294]:
|
11:3 Now as Ptolemee entered into the cities, he set in every one of them a garrison of soldiers to keep it:
|
11:4 Իբրեւ եկին մերձեցան նոքա ՛ի քաղաքն Ազովտացւոց, ցուցի՛ն նմա զմեհեանն Դագովնայ այրեցեալ, զքաղաքն եւ որ շուրջ զիւրեւ էին այրեցեա՛լ ՛ի ժամանակի պատերազմի, եւ զդիակունսն որ այրեցեալ էր` բերեալ կուտեալ էր կոյտս կոյտս ՛ի վերայ ճանապարհին[295]:

11:4 And when he came near to Azotus, they shewed him the temple of Dagon that was burnt, and Azotus and the suburbs thereof that were destroyed, and the bodies that were cast abroad and them that he had burnt in the battle; for they had made heaps of them by the way where he should pass:
|
11:5 Եւ պատմէին առաջի արքային որ զինչ միանգամ գործեաց Յովնաթան, եւ յաչա՛ց հանէին զնա. եւ թագաւորն լռի՛կ կայր[296]:
|
11:5 Also they told the king whatsoever Jonathan had done, to the intent he might blame him: but the king held his peace:
|
11:6 Եւ եկն յանդիման եղեւ Յովնաթան թագաւորին ՛ի քաղաքն Յոպպէացւոց փառօք մեծօք. ողջոյն ետուն միմեանց, եւ եղեն ա՛յն օր առ միմեանս[297]:
|
11:6 Then Jonathan met the king with great pomp at Joppa, where they saluted one another, and lodged:
|
11:7 Եւ գնա՛ց Յովնաթան ընդ արքային մինչեւ ՛ի կողմանս գետոյն որ անուանեալ կոչի Ազատ: Եւ դարձաւ Յովնաթան անդրէն յԵրուսաղէմ:
|
11:7 Afterward Jonathan, when he had gone with the king to the river called Eleutherus, returned again to Jerusalem:
|
11:8 Իսկ արքայ Պտղոմէոս տիրեաց ՛ի վերայ քաղաքացն ծովեզերեայց` մինչեւ ՛ի քաղաքն Սելեւկացւոց. եւ խորհէր ՛ի վերայ Աղ՛էքսանդրեայ խորհո՛ւրդ չարութեան[298]:

11:8 King Ptolemee therefore, having gotten the dominion of the cities by the sea unto Seleucia upon the sea coast, imagined wicked counsels against Alexander:
|
11:9 Եւ արձակեա՛ց նա հրովարտակս առ Դեմետր արքայ եւ ասէ. Ե՛կ ո՛ւխտ դիցուք առ միմեանս` եւ դաշինս կռեսցուք, եւ տա՛ց քեզ զդուստր իմ զոր ունի Աղ՛էքսանդրոս արքայ, եւ տիրեսցես դու ՛ի վերայ արքայութեան հօր քոյ[299]:

11:9 Whereupon he sent ambasadors unto king Demetrius, saying, Come, let us make a league betwixt us, and I will give thee my daughter whom Alexander hath, and thou shalt reign in thy father' s kingdom:
|
11:10 զի զղջացեա՛լ եմ թէ ընդէ՞ր ետու ես զդուստր իմ նմա կնութեան. զի խորհեցաւ նա ՛ի վերայ իմ մա՛հ[300]:
|
11:10 For I repent that I gave my daughter unto him, for he sought to slay me:
|
11:11 Եւ ա՛յսպէս յաչաց հանէր զնա, զի ի՛ւր ակն եդեալ էր տէրութեան նորա:
|
11:11 Thus did he slander him, because he was desirous of his kingdom:
|
11:12 Եւ եհա՛ն զդուստրն, եւ ետ Դեմետրի. եւ խոտորեցաւ յԱղ՛էքսանդրէ, եւ յայտնեա՛ց զթշնամութիւն իւր: Եւ եմուտ Պտղոմէոս եւ տիրեաց նա ՛ի վերայ քաղաքացն, եւ Սելեւկեայ ծովեզերեայց: Եւ խորհէր չարութիւն ՛ի վերայ Աղ՛էքսանդրու[301]:

11:12 Wherefore he took his daughter from him, and gave her to Demetrius, and forsook Alexander, so that their hatred was openly known:
|
11:13 Ե՛կն եմուտ ՛ի քաղաքն Անտիոքացւոց. եւ եդաւ զթագ զԱսիացւոցն. եւ պսակեցաւ կրկին թագաւն Ասիացւոց` եւ թագաւն Եգիպտացւոց:
|
11:13 Then Ptolemee entered into Antioch, where he set two crowns upon his head, the crown of Asia, and of Egypt:
|
11:14 Բայց Աղ՛էքսանդրոս արքայ էր ՛ի կողմանս Կիւլիկեցւոց ՛ի ժամանակին յայնմիկ. զի ապստամբէին մարդիկն ՛ի նմանէ[302]:
|
11:14 In the mean season was king Alexander in Cilicia, because those that dwelt in those parts had revolted from him:
|
11:15 Եւ լուաւ Աղ՛էքսանդրոս` դիմեաց գալ ՛ի վերայ նորա մարտիւ պատերազմաւ: Եւ ել Պտղոմէոս ընդ առաջ նորա զօրօք բազմօք, եւ դարձոյց զնա ՛ի պարտութիւն:

11:15 But when Alexander heard of this, he came to war against him: whereupon king Ptolemee brought forth his host, and met him with a mighty power, and put him to flight:
|
11:16 Եւ փախստեայ լինէր Աղ՛էքսանդրոս ՛ի կողմանս Արաբացւոց. զի անդ թաքիցէ եւ ապրիցէ ՛ի նմանէ: Եւ արքայ Պտղոմէոս բարձրացաւ:
|
11:16 So Alexander fled into Arabia there to be defended; but king Ptolemee was exalted:
|
11:17 Եւ ե՛կն Զաբեէլ Արուայիկ, եհա՛տ զգլուխն Աղ՛էքսանդրեայ, եւ ետ տանել Պտղոմոսի արքայի[303]:
|
11:17 For Zabdiel the Arabian took off Alexander' s head, and sent it unto Ptolemee:
|
11:18 Եւ Պտղոմէոս մեռաւ յաւուրն երրորդի, եւ որ էին զամրօքն սատակեցան յամրականացն:
|
11:18 King Ptolemee also died the third day after, and they that were in the strong holds were slain one of another:
|
11:19 Եւ թագաւորեաց Դեմետր, յամին հարիւրորդի վաթսներորդի եւթներորդի:
|
11:19 By this means Demetrius reigned in the hundred threescore and seventh year:
|
11:20 Ընդ աւուրսն ընդ այնոսիկ ժողովեաց Յովնաթան զօրս ՛ի Հրէաստան, գա՛լ մա՛րտ դնել զբերդաւն որ յԵրուսաղէմ էր. կազմեցին զնովաւ շուրջ մենքենայս բազումս:

11:20 At the same time Jonathan gathered together them that were in Judea to take the tower that was in Jerusalem: and he made many engines of war against it:
|
11:21 Ապա գնացին ոմանք որ թշնամի՛ էին ազգին Հրէից, ա՛րք անօրէնք պատմել թագաւորին, եթէ Յովնաթան մենքենայս կազմեալ շուրջ զբերդաւն պատեալ` յառնուլ պատրաստեալ[304]:

11:21 Then came ungodly persons, who hated their own people, went unto the king, and told him that Jonathan besieged the tower:
|
11:22 Իբրեւ լուաւ` բարկացա՛ւ յոյժ. չուեաց եւ եկն ՛ի Պտղոմէոս, ե՛տ հրովարտակս առ Յովնաթան, զի մի՛ եւս զբերդն շուրջ պաշարեալ պահիցէ. այլ ինքն յարուցեալ վաղվաղակի առ նա հասանիցէ` ՛ի քաղաքն Պտղոմէացւոց զի ա՛նդ յանդիման լիցին միմեանց[305]:
|
11:22 Whereof when he heard, he was angry, and immediately removing, he came to Ptolemais, and wrote unto Jonathan, that he should not lay siege to the tower, but come and speak with him at Ptolemais in great haste:
|
11:23 Իբրեւ լուաւ Յովնաթան` եւ՛ս քան զեւս պնդել հրամայեաց զպահ բերդին. եւ ինքն ա՛ռ արս ընտիրս իմաստունս ՛ի ծերակոյտ ժողովրդենէ անտի, եւ ՛ի քահանայից անտի:
|
11:23 Nevertheless Jonathan, when he heard this, commanded to besiege it still: and he chose certain of the elders of Israel and the priests, and put himself in peril:
|
11:24 հանդերձեցաւ պատարագօք, ոսկւով եւ արծաթով, եւ ե՛դ զանձն ՛ի մահ, գնա՛ց յանդիմա՛ն լինել թագաւորին ՛ի քաղաքն Պտղոմէացւոց: Եւ եգիտ նա շնորհս ՛ի նմանէ[306]:

11:24 And took silver and gold, and raiment, and divers presents besides, and went to Ptolemais unto the king, where he found favour in his sight:
|
11:25 թէպէտ եւ բազումք էին յանօրինաց անտի ամբաստա՛ն զնմանէ:
|
11:25 And though certain ungodly men of the people had made complaints against him:
|
11:26 Եւ մեծարեա՛ց զնա թագաւորն որպէս առաջինքն իւր. եւ բարձրացոյց զնա յոյժ առաջի ամենայն բարեկամաց իւրոց:
|
11:26 Yet the king entreated him as his predecessors had done before, and promoted him in the sight of all his friends:
|
11:27 եւ կարգեաց նմա զիշխանութիւն քահանայապետութեանն. եւ որ ինչ ա՛յլ ինչ պատիւ ունէր յառաջագոյն քան զնա: Կացոյց կարգեաց զնա ընդ առաջին բարեկամս[307]:
|
11:27 And confirmed him in the high priesthood, and in all the honours that he had before, and gave him preeminence among his chief friends:
|
11:28 Եւ աղաչեաց Յովնաթան զարքայն, զի ապահա՛րկ արասցէ զՀրէաստան, եւ զերեսին կուսակալութիւնսն, եւ զՇամրին: Եւ յա՛նձն առ նմա տա՛լ նմա երեք հարիւր քանքար[308]:
|
11:28 Then Jonathan desired the king, that he would make Judea free from tribute, as also the three governments, with the country of Samaria; and he promised him three hundred talents:
|
11:29 Եւ հաճո՛յ թուեցաւ թագաւորին. եւ վասն ա՛յսր ամենայնի հրամա՛ն ետ հրովարտակս տալ առ Յովնաթան օրինակաւս այսուիկ:
|
11:29 So the king consented, and wrote letters unto Jonathan of all these things after this manner:
|
11:30 Արքա՛յ Դեմետր առ Յովնաթան եղբայր` ողջո՛յն:
|
11:30 King Demetrius unto his brother Jonathan, and unto the nation of the Jews, sendeth greeting:
|
11:31 Զպատճէն հրովարտակիս այսորիկ գրեցաք մեք առ Ղասթենէս եղբայր մեր, նովին օրինակաւ եւ առ ձեզ գրեցաք զի գիտասջիք[309]:
|
11:31 We send you here a copy of the letter which we did write unto our cousin Lasthenes concerning you, that ye might see it:
|
11:32 Արքայ Դեմետր` առ Ղասթենէս հայր` ողջոյն:
|
11:32 King Demetrius unto his father Lasthenes sendeth greeting:
|
11:33 Ազգին Հրէից օգնական նիզակակից` ուխտակա՛լ բարեկամաց մերոց, իրաւունս համարեցաք դիւրել բարի՛ առնել փոխանակ արդարութեան միամտութեամբ զոր պահեցին նոքա առ մեզ[310]:
|
11:33 We are determined to do good to the people of the Jews, who are our friends, and keep covenants with us, because of their good will toward us:
|
11:34 Կարգեցաք մեք զսահմանս Հրէաստանի, եւ զերիս օրէնսն` Ափարիմ, եւ Ղուդա, եւ Ռաթամին, յաւելցին ՛ի Հրէաստանի ՛ի կողմանս Շամրնի. եւ ամենայն որ ինչ հասի օրէն գայցէ ՛ի նոցանէ` լիցի՛ այն պաշտօնէից յԵրուսաղէմ. փոխանակ արքունական մտիցն որ գայր ՛ի նոցանէ ա՛մ յամէ յարմտեաց երկրին, եւ ՛ի բերոյ ծառոցն պտղոյն[311]:

11:34 Wherefore we have ratified unto them the borders of Judea, with the three governments of Apherema and Lydda and Ramathem, that are added unto Judea from the country of Samaria, and all things appertaining unto them, for all such as do sacrifice in Jerusalem, instead of the payments which the king received of them yearly aforetime out of the fruits of the earth and of trees:

11:35 Եւ ա՛յլ որ ինչ տարազք արքունի, կամ տասանորդք, կամ մաքս, կամ ինչ որ ինչ մուտք յարքունիս իցեն. կամ բաժ աղտից, կամ տարազ պսակաց[312]:
|
11:35 And as for other things that belong unto us, of the tithes and customs pertaining unto us, as also the saltpits, and the crown taxes, which are due unto us, we discharge them of them all for their relief:
|
11:36 զայս ամենայն թողցուք ՛ի նոսա. եւ մի մի ինչ մի՛ յայսցանէ անարգեալ գտցի մինչեւ յաւիտեանս ժամանակաց[313]:
|
11:36 And nothing hereof shall be revoked from this time forth for ever:
|
11:37 Արդ ձեզ փո՛յթ լիցի առնել պատճէն մի հրովարտակիդ, եւ տալ առ Յովնաթան` զի դիցի ՛ի գանձն սրբութեան` ՛ի դիպա՛ն վայր ՛ի նշանաւոր տեղւոջ[314]:

11:37 Now therefore see that thou make a copy of these things, and let it be delivered unto Jonathan, and set upon the holy mount in a conspicuous place:
|
11:38 Իբրեւ ետես Դեմետր արքայ, եթէ հնազանդեցաւ ամենայն երկիր առաջի նորա. եւ ո՛չինչ էր յաշխարհի որ ինչ ընդդէմ դառնայր հրամանաց նորա, հրամա՛ն ետ արձակել զզօրսն յիւրաքանչիւր տեղիս. բա՛ց ՛ի զօրաց յազգաց հեռաւորաց, եւ ՛ի մարզիկ գնդէ կղզեաց կղզեաց ոք:
Եւ ՛ի թշնամութիւն դարձան ամենայն զօրք ազգաց ընդ նմա[315]:

11:38 After this, when king Demetrius saw that the land was quiet before him, and that no resistance was made against him, he sent away all his forces, every one to his own place, except certain bands of strangers, whom he had gathered from the isles of the heathen: wherefore all the forces of his fathers hated him:
|
11:39 Տրիփոն անուն էր Աղ՛էքսանդրեան տոհմին, իբրեւ ետես եթէ զօրքն ամենայն տրտո՛ւնջ են զԴեմետրեայ` գնա՛ց նա առ Իմաղկուս Արուայիկ, որ սնուցանէր զԱնտիոք զպատանեակն Աղ՛էքսանդրի[316]:

11:39 Moreover there was one Tryphon, that had been of Alexander' s part afore, who, seeing that all the host murmured against Demetrius, went to Simalcue the Arabian that brought up Antiochus the young son of Alexander:
|
11:40 Եւ առ նմա՛ կանխէր` զի տացէ նա ցնա՛ զմանուկն, եւ ածցէ թագաւորեցուսցէ ՛ի տեղի հօր իւրոյ. եւ պատմեաց նմա որ ինչ միանգամ գործս գործեաց Դեմետր, եւ զամենայն թշնամութիւնս որ միանգամ գոռային զօրքն. եւ ա՛նդ լինէր առ նմա աւուրս բազումս[317]:

11:40 And lay sore upon him to deliver him this young Antiochus, that he might reign in his father' s stead: he told him therefore all that Demetrius had done, and how his men of war were at enmity with him, and there he remained a long season:
|
11:41 Առաքեա՛ց Յովնաթան առ Դեմետր արքայ, զի հրամա՛ն տացէ իջուցանել զզօրսն որ ՛ի միջնաբերդի անդ էին, եւ որ յամուրս անդ էին. զի էին նոքա թշնամութեամբ ընդ Իսրայէլի:
|
11:41 In the mean time Jonathan sent unto king Demetrius, that he would cast those of the tower out of Jerusalem, and those also in the fortresses: for they fought against Israel:
|
11:42 Եւ առաքեաց Դեմետրիոս առ Յովնաթան` եւ ասէ. Ո՛չ զայդ միայն արարից քեզ եւ ազգի քում, այլ փառօք փառաւորեցից զազգ քո` եթէ ժամանակ միայն գտից[318]:
|
11:42 So Demetrius sent unto Jonathan, saying, I will not only do this for thee and thy people, but I will greatly honour thee and thy nation, if opportunity serve:
|
11:43 Արդ դու բարւոք արասցե՛ս, առաքեսցես առ իս գունդ մի ՛ի թիկունս, զի զօրքս աւասիկ յինէն յե՛տս կացին:
|
11:43 Now therefore thou shalt do well, if thou send me men to help me; for all my forces are gone from me:
|
11:44 Իբրեւ լուաւ զայն Յովնաթան, վաղվաղակի գունդ մի յերից հազարաց արս ընտիրս սպառազէնս արձակեաց ՛ի թիկունս թագաւորին ՛ի քաղաքն Անտիոքացւոց. եւ ուրա՛խ եղեւ թագաւորն ՛ի հասանել նոցա ՛ի ձեռս նորա:
|
11:44 Upon this Jonathan sent him three thousand strong men unto Antioch: and when they came to the king, the king was very glad of their coming:
|
11:45 Իբրեւ զայն լուան քաղաքացիքն. ժողովեցան յիւրաքանչիւր տեղւոջէ ՛ի մէջ քաղաքին` իբրեւ բեւրք երկոտասան: Ա՛յն ինչ յարձակեալ էին ՛ի վերայ թագաւորին, կամէին անդէն սպանանել:
|
11:45 Howbeit they that were of the city gathered themselves together into the midst of the city, to the number of an hundred and twenty thousand men, and would have slain the king:
|
11:46 նա խո՛յս ետ ՛ի նոցանէ. եւ նոքա առին վաղվաղակի զկիրճսն ամենայն գնացից քաղաքին. մա՛րտ եդին եւ սկսան մաքառել:
|
11:46 Wherefore the king fled into the court, but they of the city kept the passages of the city, and began to fight:
|
11:47 Ա՛զդ եղեւ Իսրայէլեան գնդին. կուտեցա՛ն ՛ի վերայ ապարանից թագաւորին, ձա՛յն ետուն միմեանց, եւ սփռեցան ընդ ամենայն քաղաքն:
|
11:47 Then the king called to the Jews for help, who came unto him all at once, and dispersing themselves through the city slew that day in the city to the number of an hundred thousand:
|
11:48 իբրեւ հարին` սպանին կոտորեցին արս իբրեւ տասն հազար. հրձի՛գ արարին զամենայն փայտակերտն զապարանից նորա. եւ զինչս եւ զստացուածս նոցա առի՛ն յաւարի. արկին յիւրեանս զթագաւորն, եւ ապրեցուցին զնա ՛ի ձեռաց նոցա[319]:
|
11:48 Also they set fire on the city, and gat many spoils that day, and delivered the king:
|
11:49 Իբրեւ ետես մնացեալ գունդ քաղաքին, եթէ զօրացաւ գունդն Իսրայէլեան ՛ի վերայ նոցա, եւ կամակար յաղթեցին նոցա. լքան նուաղեցա՛ն, եւ տկարացան ՛ի խորհուրդս իւրեանց. ՛ի ձայն բարբառոյ ողոքանաց սկսան աղաղակե՛լ առ թագաւորն` եւ ասեն:
|
11:49 So when they of the city saw that the Jews had got the city as they would, their courage was abated: wherefore they made supplication to the king, and cried, saying:
|
11:50 Ձե՛ռն տուր մեզ, եւ դադարեսցէ գունդս մոլեկան ՛ի կոտորածէ քաղաքիս:
|
11:50 Grant us peace, and let the Jews cease from assaulting us and the city:
|
11:51 Զա՛յն բան ասէին, եւ զիւրաքանչիւր զէնս առ ոտս պատերազմողացն ընկենուին: Եւ բարձրանա՛յր փառօք գունդն Իսրայէլեան առաջի թագաւորին, եւ առաջի ամենայն զօրաց նորա. եւ դառնային անդրէն յԵրուսաղէմ անուամբ մեծաւ եւ բազում աւարաւ[320]:

11:51 With that they cast away their weapons, and made peace; and the Jews were honoured in the sight of the king, and in the sight of all that were in his realm; and they returned to Jerusalem, having great spoils:
|
11:52 Եւ նստա՛ւ Դեմետր արքայ յաթոռ տէրութեան իւրոյ, եւ սարսեաց երկիրն ամենայն առաջի նորա[321]:
|
11:52 So king Demetrius sat on the throne of his kingdom, and the land was quiet before him:
|
11:53 Եւ ստեաց Իսրայէլացւոցն յամենայնի որ ինչ խոստացաւ նա նոցա, եւ ամենեւին օտարացաւ յաչս Յովնաթանու. եւ ո՛չ հատոյց նմա ըստ միամտութեան վաստակոց նորա:
|
11:53 Nevertheless he dissembled in all that ever he spake, and estranged himself from Jonathan, neither rewarded he him according to the benefits which he had received of him, but troubled him very sore:
|
11:54 Յետ այսորիկ դարձա՛ւ Տրիփոն, եւ պատանեակն Անտիոքոս ընդ նմա, թագաւորեալ եւ նստեալ յաթոռ տէրութեան:
|
11:54 After this returned Tryphon, and with him the young child Antiochus, who reigned, and was crowned:
|
11:55 Եւ առ նա՛ ժողովէին զօրքն ամենայն որ ցրուեալ էր ՛ի Դեմետրեայ: Եւ ետուն մարտ պատերազմի ընդ Դեմետրեայ, եւ փախուցին զնա վատթարեալ[322]:
|
11:55 Then there gathered unto him all the men of war, whom Demetrius had put away, and they fought against Demetrius, who turned his back and fled:
|
11:56 Եւ եկն ա՛ռ զգազանսն Տրիփոն. եւ կալաւ զքաղաքն Անտիոքացւոց:
|
11:56 Moreover Tryphon took the elephants, and won Antioch:
|
11:57 Հրամա՛ն ետ հրովարտակ առնել մանուկն Անտիոքոս` առ Յովնաթան` եւ ասէ. Կացուցեա՛լ իմ զքեզ ՛ի գո՛րծ քահանայապետութեան, եւ հաստատեալ իմ զքեզ ՛ի վերայ չորիցն օրինաց, եւ կարգեցաք զքեզ ընդ բուն եւ ընդ առաջին բարեկամս մեր[323]:
|
11:57 At that time young Antiochus wrote unto Jonathan, saying, I confirm thee in the high priesthood, and appoint thee ruler over the four governments, and to be one of the king' s friends:
|
11:58 Եւ ե՛տ տանել նմա նուագս ոսկիս, եւ սպաս տաճարին: Եւ ետ նմա իշխանութիւն ըմպել ոսկի նուագօք, արկանել ծիրանիս, եւ իշխել կրել նշան շգեղ, ըստ նշանի թագաւորաց:
|
11:58 Upon this he sent him golden vessels to be served in, and gave him leave to drink in gold, and to be clothed in purple, and to wear a golden buckle:
|
11:59 Եւ զՇմաւոն զեղբայր նորա հրաման ետ իշխան զօրավար կացուցանել ՛ի կողմանցն Ծուրայ մինչեւ ՛ի սահմանս Եգիպտացւոց:

11:59 His brother Simon also he made captain from the place called The ladder of Tyrus unto the borders of Egypt:
|
11:60 Եւ ել Յովնաթան շրջել յայնկոյս Յորդանան գետոյ` եւ ընդ քաղաքսն, եւ ժողովեցան առ նա ամենայն զօրք Ասորւոց ՛ի թիկունս: Եւ եկն նա ՛ի կողմանս Ասկաղոնեայ. եւ ելին նմա քաղաքացիքն ընդ առաջ մեծա՛ւ գովութեամբ:

11:60 Then Jonathan went forth, and passed through the cities beyond the water, and all the forces of Syria gathered themselves unto him for to help him: and when he came to Ascalon, they of the city met him honourably:
|
11:61 Անտի գնա՛ց եկն ՛ի Գազայ, եւ Գազացիքն փակեցին նմա զդրունսն. նստա՛ւ շուրջ զնոքօք, եւ հրձիգ արար զաւանս նոցա. եւ զինչս եւ զստացուածս նոցա վարեցին ՛ի գերութեան[324]:

11:61 From whence he went to Gaza, but they of Gaza shut him out; wherefore he laid siege unto it, and burned the suburbs thereof with fire, and spoiled them:
|
11:62 Ապա եկին Գազացիքն առաջի կացին` ձե՛ռն ետուն նմա, եւ մատուցին զորդիս իշխանացն իւրեանց ՛ի պատանդութիւն, եւ նա ա՛ռ ետ տանել զնոսա յԵրուսաղէմ. եւ ինքն անց ընդ երկիրն ՛ի կողմանս Դամասկեայ:

11:62 Afterward, when they of Gaza made supplication unto Jonathan, he made peace with them, and took the sons of their chief men for hostages, and sent them to Jerusalem, and passed through the country unto Damascus:
|
11:63 Եւ լուաւ Յովնաթան եթէ հասին իշխանք Դեմետրեայ ՛ի Կադէս ՛ի կողմանս Գալիլեացւոց զօրօք բազմօք. իբրեւ կամէին իմն թէ փոխեսցուք զնա ՛ի գործոյ անտի:

11:63 Now when Jonathan heard that Demetrius' princes were come to Cades, which is in Galilee, with a great power, purposing to remove him out of the country:
|
11:64 նա եթող զեղբայր իւր զՇմաւոն յերկրին վերայ. եւ ինքն գնա՛ց ընդ առաջ նոցա:
|
11:64 He went to meet them, and left Simon his brother in the country:
|
11:65 Եւ Շմաւոն հասանէր պատերազմաւ ՛ի վերայ Բեթսովրայ, եւ պաշարէր զնա աւուրս բազումս, եւ յարգե՛լ արկանէր զնոսա:
|
11:65 Then Simon encamped against Bethsura and fought against it a long season, and shut it up:
|
11:66 Աղաչե՛լ սկսան նոքա զնա, զի դաշի՛նս արասցէ ընդ նոսա. նա ետ ձեռն նոցա, եւ եհան զնոսա անտի. եւ կացո՛յց անդ նա պահապանս քաղաքին:
|
11:66 But they desired to have peace with him, which he granted them, and then put them out from thence, and took the city, and set a garrison in it:
|
11:67 Եւ Յովնաթան զօրօքն իւրովք եկն բանակեցաւ ՛ի վերայ ջուրցն Գեննեսարեթայ, կանխեաց նա ընդ առաւօտն ՛ի դաշտն Նասովրայ[325]:
|
11:67 As for Jonathan and his host, they pitched at the water of Gennesar, from whence betimes in the morning they gat them to the plain of Nasor:
|
11:68 եւ գունդ մի այլազգեաց ընդ առաջ եղեւ ՛ի դաշտի անդ: Եւ դարան գործեցին ՛ի վերայ նորա. կէսքն ՛ի դարա՛ն մտին, կէսքն ՛ի դիմի՛ հարան նմա:

11:68 And, behold, the host of strangers met them in the plain, who, having laid men in ambush for him in the mountains, came themselves over against him:
|
11:69 Եւ յարեան դարանակալքն յիւրաքանչիւր տեղեաց` զհետ եղեն նոցա, եւ զՅովնաթան ՛ի մէ՛ջ արկին զօրօքն հանդերձ[326]:
|
11:69 So when they that lay in ambush rose out of their places and joined battle, all that were of Jonathan' s side fled:
|
11:70 Եւ արարին զզօրսն Յովնաթանու փախստեայս. եւ ո՛չ մնաց առ նմա, բայց միայն Մատաթի Բեսաղոմեան, եւ Յուդա Սկափեան` զօրավարք զօրացն[327]:

11:70 Insomuch as there was not one of them left, except Mattathias the son of Absalom, and Judas the son of Calphi, the captains of the host:
|
11:71 Ձեռն զօձեօք արկանէր Յովնաթան, զպատմուճանն պատառէր, հող ՛ի գլո՛ւխ լինէր:
|
11:71 Then Jonathan rent his clothes, and cast earth upon his head, and prayed:
|
11:72 ՛Ի վերայ յարձակէր բարկութեամբ մեծաւ, եւ ՛ի պարտութիւն մատնէր զնոսա[328]:
|
11:72 Afterwards turning again to battle, he put them to flight, and so they ran away:
|
11:73 Յա՛յնմ ժամանակի փախստեայքն ամենեքեան անդրէն ՛ի նո՛յն դառնային, հալածակա՛ն զթշնամիսն առնէին առաջի իւրեանց, մինչեւ ՛ի բանակն իւրեանց ՛ի Կադէս. եւ եկին անկան զբանակաւն այլազգեաց[329]:

11:73 Now when his own men that were fled saw this, they turned again unto him, and with him pursued them to Cades, even unto their own tents, and there they camped:
|
11:74 հարին կոտորեցին յաւուր յայնմիկ իբրեւ երեք հազար հեծեալ սպառազէնս: Եւ դարձաւ Յովնաթան յԵրուսաղէմ[330]:
|
11:74 So there were slain of the heathen that day about three thousand men: but Jonathan returned to Jerusalem:
|
