7:1 Եւ ՛ի վաղիւ անդր պատուիրեաց Հողոփեռն զօրաց իւրոց, եւ ժողովեցան որ եկեալն էին նմա յօգնականութիւն, չուել գնա՛լ ՛ի Բետիղուա, եւ ՛ի վերայ ելից լեռնակողմանն, եւ հասանե՛լ տալ պատերազմ ընդ որդիսն Իսրայէլի:

7:1 The next day Holofernes commanded all his army, and all his people which were come to take his part, that they should remove their camp against Bethulia, to take aforehand the ascents of the hill country, and to make war against the children of Israel:
|
7:2 Եւ կազմեցան պատրաստեցան` գնացին յաւուրն յայնմիկ, ամենայն այր պատերազմի, եւ ամենայն հետեւակազօր պատերազմողացն հարիւր եւթանասուն հազար, եւ հեծելազօրքն վառեալք երկոտասան հազար. թող զայլ ռամիկն ամենայն, եւ զկա՛հ եւ զկարասի բազում սաստիկ յոյժ:

7:2 Then their strong men removed their camps in that day, and the army of the men of war was an hundred and seventy thousand footmen, and twelve thousand horsemen, beside the baggage, and other men that were afoot among them, a very great multitude:
|
7:3 Եւ բանակեցան նոքա ՛ի հովիտն որ մե՛րձ էր ՛ի Բետիուղա ՛ի վերայ աղբերն. եւ հանին զառաջս բանակացն ընդ հարաւակողմն ՛ի լայնութիւն մինչեւ ՛ի Դովթայիմ, մինչեւ ՛ի Բեղ՛բեմ. եւ յերկայնութիւն ՛ի Բետիղուա մինչեւ ՛ի Կիամ, որ է ընդդէմ Յեզրայելովմայ, ա՛յս ինքն է Յեզրայէլ[49]:

7:3 And they camped in the valley near unto Bethulia, by the fountain, and they spread themselves in breadth over Dothaim even to Belmaim, and in length from Bethulia unto Cynamon, which is over against Esdraelon:

7:4 Եւ որդիքն Իսրայէլի իբրեւ տեսին զա՛յնչափ բազմութիւնն խռովեցան յոյժ, եւ ասեն ա՛յր ցընկեր իւր. Այժմ լիզո՛ւն նոքա զամենայն երեսս երկրի, եւ ո՛չ լերինք բարձունք, եւ ո՛չ ձորք եւ բլուրք կարասցեն կա՛լ առաջի զօրութեան դոցա[50]:

7:4 Now the children of Israel, when they saw the multitude of them, were greatly troubled, and said every one to his neighbour, Now will these men lick up the face of the earth; for neither the high mountains, nor the valleys, nor the hills, are able to bear their weight:
|
7:5 Եւ առին որդիքն Իսրայէլի ա՛յր իւրաքանչիւր զզէն իւր, եւ լուցանէին ջահս ՛ի վերայ աշտարակացն քաղաքին, եւ կային պահէին զամենայն գիշերն զայն[51]:

7:5 Then every man took up his weapons of war, and when they had kindled fires upon their towers, they remained and watched all that night:
|
7:6 Եւ յաւուրն երկրորդի եհան Հողոփեռնէս զամենայն զհեծելազօրն դէմ յանդիման որդւոցն Իսրայէլի որ էին ՛ի Բետիղուա, եւ հաս նա ՛ի վերայ ելից քաղաքին նոցա, եւ զաղբերս ջրոցն քննեաց, եւ աճապարէր պաշարել զնոսա. եւ հարկանէր ՛ի վերայ նոցա բանակս բանակս յարա՛նց պատերազմողաց. եւ ինքն չուէր գնայր անդրէն ՛ի բանակն իւր[52]:

7:6 But in the second day Holofernes brought forth all his horsemen in the sight of the children of Israel which were in Bethulia,
KJV [7] And viewed the passages up to the city, and came to the fountains of their waters, and took them, and set garrisons of men of war over them, and he himself removed toward his people:

7:8 Եւ մատեան առ նա ամենայն որդիքն Ամովնայ, եւ ամենայն ժողովք եւ առաջնորդք որդւոցն Մովաբու, եւ զօրագլուխք ծովեզերեայցն` եւ ասեն[53]:

7:8 Then came unto him all the chief of the children of Esau, and all the governors of the people of Moab, and the captains of the sea coast, and said:
|
7:9 Լուիցէ՛ բանից ծառայից իւրոց Տէր մեր, զի մի՛ լիցին հարուածք զօրաց քոց. զի ժողովուրդ որդւոցս Իսրայէլի ո՛չ են յուսացեալ ՛ի նիզակս իւրեանց, եւ ո՛չ ՛ի զէնս, այլ ՛ի վերայ լերանց բարձանց իւրեանց յորում բնակեալ են ՛ի նոսա. ո՛չ իսկ հնա՛ր է հասանել ՛ի նոսա: Եւ արդ Տէր` մի՛ տար դու ընդ նոսա մարտ պատերազմի` որպէս եւ լինի պատերազմ. եւ ո՛չ անկցի մի այր ՛ի զօրաց քոց. այլ հանդարտեա՛ եւ մնա՛ դու ՛ի բանակիս քում, եւ ապրեցուսցես դու զզօրս քո. այլ կալցին ծառայք քո զաղբերս ջուրցն որ ելանէ ՛ի լեռնոտանէ անտի. քանզի անտի՛ ըմպեն ամենայն բնակիչք քաղաքիդ. եւ սատակին նոքա ՛ի ծարաւոյ, եւ ապա ինքեա՛նք իսկ մատնեսցեն զքաղաքն ՛ի ձեռս քո. եւ ամենայն զօրավարօք մերովք ելանեմք ՛ի վերայ լերանց բարձանց որ մերձաւորքս իցեն, եւ բանակեսցուք ՛ի վերայ նոցա իբրեւ զայր մի. քանզի սպառեսցին նոքա ՛ի սովոյ եւ ծարաւոյ, ինքեանք եւ կանայք իւրեանց եւ որդիք իւրեանց մինչչե՛ւ եկեալ իցէ ՛ի վերայ նոցա սուր. տապա՛ստ անկցին ՛ի հրապարակս քաղաքին իւրեանց, եւ հատուսցես նոցա զհատուցումն չարութեան նոցա. փոխանակ զի ՛ի կռի՛ւ կացին եւ ո՛չ հնազանդեցան քեզ խաղաղութեամբ[54]:

7:9 Let our lord now hear a word, that there be not an overthrow in thine army.
KJV [10] For this people of the children of Israel do not trust in their spears, but in the height of the mountains wherein they dwell, because it is not easy to come up to the tops of their mountains.
KJV [11] Now therefore, my lord, fight not against them in battle array, and there shall not so much as one man of thy people perish.
KJV [12] Remain in thy camp, and keep all the men of thine army, and let thy servants get into their hands the fountain of water, which issueth forth of the foot of the mountain:
KJV [13] For all the inhabitants of Bethulia have their water thence; so shall thirst kill them, and they shall give up their city, and we and our people shall go up to the tops of the mountains that are near, and will camp upon them, to watch that none go out of the city.
KJV [14] So they and their wives and their children shall be consumed with fire, and before the sword come against them, they shall be overthrown in the streets where they dwell.
KJV [15] Thus shalt thou render them an evil reward; because they rebelled, and met not thy person peaceably:

7:10 Եւ հաճո՛յ թուեցաւ խորհուրդն` Հողոփեռնեայ եւ ամենայն ծառայից նորա, եւ հրամա՛ն ետ առնել որպէս եւ խօսեցանն: Եւ գնաց բանակ որդւոցն Ամոնայ, եւ ընդ նոսա հազարք հինգ յորդւոցն Ասուր, եւ բանակեցան նոքա ՛ի ձոր հովտին, եւ հասին կալան նոքա զաղբերս ջուրցն զորդւոցն Իսրայէլի: Եւ ելին որդիքն Եսաւայ, եւ որդիքն Ամոնայ, եւ բանակեցան ընդ կողմն լերինն ընդդէ՛մ Դովթայիմայ. եւ առաքեցին ՛ի նոցանէն ՛ի հարաւակողմն կոյս` եւ ընդ հիւսւսի ընդդէ՛մ Եգրեբիղ՛այ` որ է մերձ ընդ Քուշ, որ է ՛ի վերայ ձորոյն Քումուրայ: Եւ այլ զօրք Ասորեստանեայցն բանակեցան ՛ի դաշտին` եւ ծածկեցին զամենայն երեսս երկրին: Եւ այլ ռամիկքն` կահիւ եւ կարասով եւ խորանօք հանդերձ բանակեցան անդէ՛ն բազում մեծութեամբ: Եւ որդիքն Իսրայէլի գոչեցին առ Տէր Աստուած իւրեանց, զի զահի հարեալ սպառեալ էին ոգիք նոցա. քանզի պատեալ պաշարեալ էր զնոսա թշնամեաց նոցա. եւ ո՛չ ինչ էր հնար նոցա ելանել ՛ի միջոյ նոցա. եւ կացին պաշարեցին զնոսա զօրքն Ասուրայ զինու կառօք եւ երիվարօք իւրեանց զաւուրս երեսուն եւ չորս[55]:

7:10 KJV [16] And these words pleased Holofernes and all his servants, and he appointed to do as they had spoken.
KJV [17] So the camp of the children of Ammon departed, and with them five thousand of the Assyrians, and they pitched in the valley, and took the waters, and the fountains of the waters of the children of Israel.
KJV [18] Then the children of Esau went up with the children of Ammon, and camped in the hill country over against Dothaim: and they sent some of them toward the south, and toward the east over against Ekrebel, which is near unto Chusi, that is upon the brook Mochmur; and the rest of the army of the Assyrians camped in the plain, and covered the face of the whole land; and their tents and carriages were pitched to a very great multitude.
KJV [19] Then the children of Israel cried unto the Lord their God, because their heart failed, for all their enemies had compassed them round about, and there was no way to escape out from among them.
KJV [20] Thus all the company of Assur remained about them, both their footmen, chariots, and horsemen, four and thirty days:

7:11 Եւ լքան պարտասեցան ամենայն բնակիչք Բետիղուայ. եւ ամենայն ամանք նոցա սպառեալ էին ՛ի ջրոյ, եւ գուբք սպառեալ թափեալ էին. եւ ո՛չ գոյր ըմպելի միում աւուր, եւ զոր ըմպէին չափով եւ կշռով ըմպէին:

7:11 so that all their vessels of water failed all the inhibitants of Bethulia.
KJV [21] And the cisterns were emptied, and they had not water to drink their fill for one day; for they gave them drink by measure:

7:12 Եւ ՛ի վարանի եւ ՛ի տարակուսի կային կանայք եւ մանկունք նոցա. եւ երիտասարդք նոցա լքեալ էին ՛ի ծարաւոյ, եւ գլորեալք կային ընդ հրապարակս քաղաքին, եւ ընդ անցս դրանցն. եւ ո՛չ ուստեք էր նոցա մխիթարութիւն: Եւ ժողովեցան ամենայն ժողովուրդն ՛ի վերայ Ոզիայ` եւ ՛ի վերայ իշխանաց քաղաքին, երիտասարդք եւ կանայք եւ մանկտին, եւ լացին նոքա ձայնիւ մեծաւ, եւ ասեն առաջի ամենայն ծերոց ժողովրդեանն:

7:12 KJV [22] Therefore their young children were out of heart, and their women and young men fainted for thirst, and fell down in the streets of the city, and by the passages of the gates, and there was no longer any strength in them.
KJV [23] Then all the people assembled to Ozias, and to the chief of the city, both young men, and women, and children, and cried with a loud voice, and said before all the elders:

7:13 Դա՛տ արասցէ Աստուած ՛ի մէջ մեր եւ ՛ի մէջ ձեր, զի արարէք առ մեզ իրս անիրաւութեան, առ ՛ի չխօսելոյ ձեր ՛ի խաղաղութիւն ընդ որդիսն Ասուր[56]:

7:13 KJV [24] God be judge between us and you: for ye have done us great injury, in that ye have not required peace of the children of Assur:
|
7:14 Եւ արդ` ո՛չ ոք է որ օգնէ մեզ, այլ մատնեաց զմեզ Աստուած ՛ի ձեռս նոցա, զի տապա՛ստ անկցուք մեք առաջի նոցա, եւ ՛ի կորուստ մեծի ծարաւոյ[57]:

7:14 KJV [25] For now we have no helper: but God hath sold us into their hands, that we should be thrown down before them with thirst and great destruction:
|
7:15 Արդ այժմ աղաչեցէ՛ք դուք զնոսա, եւ տո՛ւք յաւար նոցա զքաղաքս ամենայն:
|
7:15 KJV [26] Now therefore call them unto you, and deliver the whole city for a spoil to the people of Holofernes, and to all his army:
|
7:16 Զի լա՛ւ է մեզ լինել ՛ի յափշտակութիւն նոցա եւ ՛ի ծառայութիւն` եւ կեցցեն անձինք մեր. քանզի ո՛չ կարեմք տեսանել զմահ տղայոց եւ զկանանց աչօք մերովք, զի պակասեալ սպառեալ են ոգիք նոցա:

7:16 KJV [27] For it is better for us to be made a spoil unto them, than to die for thirst: for we will be his servants, that our souls may live, and not see the death of our infants before our eyes, nor our wives nor our children to die:

7:17 Արդ վկայե՛մք ձեզ առաջի երկնից եւ երկրի, եւ Աստուծոյ հարցն մերոց որ խնդրէ զվրէժ անձանց մերոց, եւ ըստ մեղաց հարցն մերոց. զի մի՛ արասցէ ըստ բանիցս այսոցիկ յաւուրս յայսոսիկ[58]:

7:17 KJV [28] We take to witness against you the heaven and the earth, and our God and Lord of our fathers, which punisheth us according to our sins and the sins of our fathers, that he do not according as we have said this day:

7:18 Եւ եղեւ լալումն եւ ողբումն մե՛ծ ՛ի վերայ եկեղեցւոյն ամենեցուն ՛ի միասին, եւ գոչեցին նոքա առ Տէր Աստուած ձայնիւ մեծաւ[59]:

7:18 KJV [29] Then there was great weeping with one consent in the midst of the assembly; and they cried unto the Lord God with a loud voice:

7:23 Եւ ասէ ցնոսա Ոզիա. Քաջալերեցարո՛ւք եղբարք, եւ համբերեցէ՛ք աւուրս եւս հինգ, յորում աւուր առաքէ Տէր զողորմութիւն իւր ՛ի վերայ մեր:

7:23 KJV [30] Then said Ozias to them, Brethren, be of good courage, let us yet endure five days, in the which space the Lord our God may turn his mercy toward us:
|
7:24 զի ո՛չ թողու նա զմեզ ՛ի սպառ:
|
7:24 for he will not forsake us utterly:
|
7:25 եւ յորժամ անցանիցեն ա՛յս աւուրք, եւ ո՛չ եկեսցէ ՛ի վերայ մեր օգնութիւն` արարի՛ց ձեզ ըստ բանիցս այսոցիկ: Եւ արձակեաց զժողովուրդս ՛ի տունս իւրեանց. եւ յաշտարակս եւ ՛ի պարիսպս քաղաքին զգուշանալ ՛ի թշնամեացն: Եւ էին ՛ի վարանս եւ ՛ի մեծ տարակուսանս[60]:

7:25 KJV [31] And if these days pass, and there come no help unto us, I will do according to your word.
KJV [32] And he dispersed the people, every one to their own charge; and they went unto the walls and towers of their city, and sent the women and children into their houses: and they were very low brought in the city:
