4:1 Եւ եղեւ իբրեւ լուաւ Սանաբաղատ, եթէ շինեմք զպարիսպն [61]եւ կանգնեմք զաշտարակս նորա, չար թուեցաւ առաջի նորա``, եւ զայրացեալ ուժգին ծաղր առնէր [62]զՀրէաստան:

4:1 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews:
|
4:2 Եւ ասէր առաջի եղբարց [63]իւրոց. Ա՞յս է զօրութիւն ձեր, ո՛վ Սամարացիք. եւ զիա՞րդ Հրեայք շինեն եւ ամրացուցանեն զքաղաքս իւրեանց:

4:2 And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned:
|
4:3 Եւ Տուբիա Աման ի տես եկեալ առ նոսա ասէր. Մի՛ կարիցեն շինել եւ զոհել զոհս, եւ կամ ուտել զնուէրսն ի տեղւոջ իւրեանց. եւ ո՞չ ելանեն այժմ աղուէսք եւ քակեն զքարինս պարսպաց նորա: Եւ ասեմք մեք:

4:3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite [was] by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall:

4:4 Լուր մեզ, Տէր Աստուած մեր, զի եղաք մեք յարհամարհանս եւ ի թշնամանս, եւ դարձո զնախատինս նոցա ի գլուխս իւրեանց. եւ տուր զնոսա ի թշնամանս առաջի գերչաց նոցա:

4:4 Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:

4:5 եւ մի՛ ծածկեսցին անօրէնութիւնք [64]նոցա:

4:5 And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thee: for they have provoked [thee] to anger before the builders.
[6] So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work:

4:7 Եւ եղեւ իբրեւ լուան Սանաբաղատ եւ Տուբիա, Արաբացիք եւ [65]Ամոնացիք, թէ աջողեցաւ շինուած պարսպին Երուսաղեմի, եւ [66]սկսաք իւրաքանչիւր տեղեացն զգործն երեւեցուցանել, թուեցաւ չար առաջի նոցա:

4:7 But it came to pass, [that] when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, [and] that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth:
|
4:8 եւ ժողովեցան ամենեքեան ի միասին` գալ եւ պատերազմել ընդ [67]Երուսաղեմի:
|
4:8 And conspired all of them together to come [and] to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it:
|
4:9 Եւ կացաք յաղօթս առ [68]Տէր Աստուած մեր, եւ կացուցաք պահանորդս ի վերայ մեր ի տուէ եւ ի գիշերի առ ի յերեսաց թշնամեացն:

4:9 Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them:
|
4:10 Եւ ասեն արք Հրէաստանի. [69]Ոչ բաւեմք այսպիսի` պատերազմել եւ շինել միանգամայն. այլ ոմանք կազմ կացցեն զինու, եւ ոմանք շինեսցեն:

4:10 And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and [there is] much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall:

4:11 Եւ ասեն որք զմեզ նեղէինն. Ոչ տամք նոցա գիտել եւ ոչ տեսանել, մինչեւ յիւրաքանչիւր տեղեաց յարուցեալ եկեսցուք ի մէջ նոցա եւ սպանցուք զնոսա, եւ խափանեսցուք զգործս նոցա:

4:11 And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease:

4:12 Եւ եղեւ իբրեւ եկին Հրեայքն որ բնակեալ էին [70]ի տեղիս տեղիս, եւ ասացին ցմեզ``, եթէ` Ելանեն յանկարծակի յամենայն տեղեաց ի վերայ մեր:

4:12 And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us:
|
4:13 Եւ կացուցի ի խոնարհագոյն տեղիսն յետոյ պարսպին ընդ յարկօքն` [71]արս հանդերձ զինու եւ գեղարդեամբ եւ աղեղամբ իւրեանց:

4:13 Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, [and] on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows:

4:14 Եւ իմ յարուցեալ ասեմ ցարսն որ կազմ պատրաստեալ կային, եւ ցզօրագլուխս նոցա` եւ ցայնս որ տեղեաց տեղեաց պահապանքն էին. Մի՛ երկնչիք յերեսաց նոցա, յիշեցէք [72]զԱստուած մեր`` զմեծ եւ զահարկու, եւ պատերազմեցարուք վասն եղբարց ձերոց, եւ վասն կանանց եւ որդւոց եւ դստերաց եւ տանց ձերոց:

4:14 And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, [which is] great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses:

4:15 Եւ եղեւ յորժամ լուան թշնամիքն մեր եթէ իմացաք [73]եւ կազմեալ պատրաստեցաք``, ցրուեաց Աստուած զխորհուրդս նոցա, եւ մեք ամենեքեան դարձաք ի շինել զպարիսպն` այր յիւրաքանչիւր գործ իւր:

4:15 And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work:
|
4:16 Եւ եղեւ յօրէ յայնմանէ, [74]կէսքն կարգեալ լինէին ի գործն, եւ կէսքն զինեալ ընդդէմ թշնամեացն եւ գեղարդն եւ ասպար եւ աղեղն ի ձեռին իւրեանց, եւ [75]կայր պատրաստ այր իւրաքանչիւր յետոյ եղբօր իւրում որ շինէր զպարիսպն:

4:16 And it came to pass from that time forth, [that] the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers [were] behind all the house of Judah:

4:17 Եւ էր ժամ զի օգնէր եղբօր իւրում` կրելով զզէնն ի ձեռին իւրում, եւ միւսով ձեռամբն տայր ցեղբայր իւր զխիճն կամ զտաղախ:
|
4:17 They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, [every one] with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other [hand] held a weapon:

4:18 Եւ որք շինէինն` ունէր այր զսուսեր իւր ընդ մէջ իւր [76]եւ զմիասայրի ի վերայ բարձի իւրոյ, եւ այնպէս շինէին զպարիսպն Երուսաղեմի``. եւ որ հարկանէր զփողն եղջերեայ` կայր մօտ [77]առ նոսա:

4:18 For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and [so] builded. And he that sounded the trumpet [was] by me:

4:19 Եւ ասեմ ցայնս որք կային զինեալ եւ պատրաստեալ, եւ ցիշխանս նոցա``. Գործս մեծ եւ ընդարձակ է, եւ մեք ցրուեալ եմք ի շինուած պարսպիս, եւ հեռի եմք ի միմեանց այր յեղբօրէ իւրմէ:

4:19 And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work [is] great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another:
|
4:20 [78]արդ կացուսցուք ի տեղիս տեղիս զարսն որ հարկանեն զփողսն, եւ յորժամ լսիցէ ոք`` զձայն եղջեր փողոյն, անդր ժողովեսցին ամենեքեան, եւ Աստուած մեր պատերազմեսցի ընդ թշնամիս մեր վասն մեր:

4:20 In what place [therefore] ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us:

4:21 Եւ կէսքն գործէին եւ կէսքն ունէին զզէնսն պատրաստ, ի ծագելոյ առաւօտուն մինչեւ յելանել աստեղն:

4:21 So we laboured in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared:
|
4:22 Եւ ասեմ ես ցարս ժողովրդեանն. [79]Եկեսցուք եւ բնակեսցուք ի մէջ քաղաքիս Երուսաղեմի, եւ զցայգ պահ արկցուք զմեւք շուրջ, եւ զցերեկ գործեսցուք:

4:22 Likewise at the same time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour on the day:

4:23 Եւ կացի ես`` եւ արքն շուրջ զինեւ որ պահէին զիս, եւ ոչ ոք ի մէնջ մերկանայր եւ կամ հանէր զզէն իւր յինքենէ:
|
4:23 So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard which followed me, none of us put off our clothes, [saving that] every one put them off for washing:
