8:1 Իբրեւ լուաւ Յուդա զանուն Հռովմայեցւոց, եթէ են նոքա հզօրք զօրութեամբ իւրեանց. եւ նոցա բարւո՛ք թուի թէ ոք թիկունս առնէ զնոսա, եւ դաշնաւո՛ր լինի նոցա. եւ զի զօրացեալ են զօրութեամբ ՛ի վերայ երկրի:

8:1 Now Judas had heard of the the Romans, that they were mighty and valiant men, and such as would lovingly accept all that joined themselves unto them, and make a league of amity with all that came unto them:
|
8:2 Եւ վասն մարտից պատերազմի, զի հարկանէին քաջութեամբ իւրեանց զկողմանս Գաղատացւոց, զի զօրացան ՛ի վերայ նոցա, եւ կացուցին զնոսա ՛ի հարկի:
|
8:2 And that they were men of great valour. It was told him also of their wars and noble acts which they had done among the Galatians, and how they had conquered them, and brought them under tribute:
|
8:3 Եւ որ ինչ միանգամ արարին նոքա ընդ կողմանս Սպանիացւոց. եւ թափեցին ՛ի նոցանէ զբովսն ուստի ոսկին եւ արծաթն հատանի. եւ ըմբռնեցին նոքա զտեղիսն զայն ամենայն խորհրդովք իւրեանց, եւ երկայնմտութեամբ իւրեանց. զի էր տեղին կարի բացարձա՛կ ՛ի նոցանէ:

8:3 And what they had done in the country of Spain, for the winning of the mines of the silver and gold which is there:
|
8:4 եւ ՛ի թագաւորաց անտի որ եկեալ էին ՛ի վերայ նոցա ՛ի ծագաց երկրի մինչեւ հարի՛ն զնոսա: Եւ հարին զնոսա ՛ի հարուածս մեծամեծս, եւ ջնջեցին զնոսա, եւ զմնացորդսն ՛ի հարկի կացուցին տա՛լ նոցա հարկ ամ յամէ:

8:4 And that by their policy and patience they had conquered all the place, though it were very far from them; and the kings also that came against them from the uttermost part of the earth, till they had discomfited them, and given them a great overthrow, so that the rest did give them tribute every year:
|
8:5 Եւ զՓիլիպպոս, եւ զարքայն Կինէացւոց որ յարուցեալ էին ՛ի վերայ նոցա, սատակեցին զնոսա ՛ի պատերազմի եւ յաղթեցին նոցա[194]:
|
8:5 Beside this, how they had discomfited in battle Philip, and Perseus, king of the Citims, with others that lifted up themselves against them, and had overcome them:
|
8:6 Եւ զԱնտիոքոս մեծ արքայն Ասիացւոց, որ եկեալ էր ՛ի վերայ նոցա մեծաւ պատերազմաւ, ընդ իւր ունէր հարիւր քսան փիղ, եւ կառս եւ երիվարս բազում յոյժ, եւ պարտեցա՛ւ ՛ի նոցանէ[195]:

8:6 How also Antiochus the great king of Asia, that came against them in battle, having an hundred and twenty elephants, with horsemen, and chariots, and a very great army, was discomfited by them:
|
8:7 զի ձերբակա՛լ արարին զնա կենդանւոյն, եւ կացուցին զնա ՛ի տեղի մի հա՛րկ հարկանել:
|
8:7 And how they took him alive, and covenanted that he and such as reigned after him should pay a great tribute, and give hostages, and that which was agreed upon:
|
8:8 Եւ զթագաւորս որ ըստ նմանէ՛ էին տա՛լ պատանդս եւ գրաւականս. եւ զաշխարհն Հնդկաց, եւ Պարթեւաց, եւ Լիդացւոց, զընտիր ընտի՛ր գաւառաց նոցա. եւ առին զա՛յնս եւ ՛ի ձե՛ռս ետուն Եւմենեայ արքայի[196]:

8:8 And the country of India, and Media and Lydia and of the goodliest countries, which they took of him, and gave to king Eumenes:
|
8:9 Իբրեւ զա՛յն եւս լուան եթէ Յոյնք խորհեցան գա՛լ սատակել զնոսա. եւ իբրեւ ա՛զդ եղեւ բանն նոցա:
|
8:9 Moreover how the Grecians had determined to come and destroy them:
|
8:10 արձակեցին մի ՛ի զօրավարաց անտի, եւ եկն եհար սատակեաց զնոսա մեծաւ պատերազմաւ, եւ արկին ՛ի նոցանէ ՛ի սուր իւրեանց վիրաւորս բազումս. ՛ի գերութեան վարեցին զկանայս եւ զորդիս նոցա. յաւարի առին զինչս եւ զստացուածս նոցա: Կալա՛ն զերկիրն ՛ի ծառայութեան. զամուրսն քակեցին, զաշխարհն ՛ի հարկի ծառայութեան կացուցին մինչեւ յօրս յայս[197]:

8:10 And that they, having knowledge thereof sent against them a certain captain, and fighting with them slew many of them, and carried away captives their wives and their children, and spoiled them, and took possession of their lands, and pulled down their strong holds, and brought them to be their servants unto this day:
|
8:11 Եւ զա՛յլ թագաւորութիւնսն եւ զկղզիսն` որ խլրտէին` սատակեցին եւ ՛ի ծառայութեան կացուցին:
|
8:11 It was told him besides, how they destroyed and brought under their dominion all other kingdoms and isles that at any time resisted them:
|
8:12 Բայց ընդ բարեկամս իւրեանց` եւ որ թիկունս առնէ զնոսա, հաստատութեամբ սէ՛ր առնէր ընդ նոսա: Եւ հզօրացան նոքա ՛ի վերայ ամենայն թագաւորութեանց` որ մե՛րձ էին եւ որ հեռի՛ էին. եւ որ միանգամ լսէին զանուն նոցա` երկնչէին ՛ի նոցանէ[198]:

8:12 But with their friends and such as relied upon them they kept amity: and that they had conquered kingdoms both far and nigh, insomuch as all that heard of their name were afraid of them:
|
8:13 Ում կամէին տայի՛ն զթագաւորութիւն, զո կամէին` հանէին ՛ի տէրութենէ. եւ բարձրացան յոյժ:
|
8:13 Also that, whom they would help to a kingdom, those reign; and whom again they would, they displace: finally, that they were greatly exalted:
|
8:14 Եւ ՛ի վերայ այսր ամենայնի ո՛չ ոք ՛ի նոցանէ յա՛նձն առ թագ առնուլ` եւ ծիրանիս արկանել` զի հաստատեսցի տէրութիւնն:
|
8:14 Yet for all this none of them wore a crown or was clothed in purple, to be magnified thereby:
|
8:15 Այլ տո՛ւն խորհրդոց շինեցին, եւ հանապա՛զ օր երեք հարիւր եւ քսան այր ՛ի խորհո՛ւրդ մտանէին վասն զօրաց` զի զաշխարհն շէ՛ն կալցին:
|
8:15 Moreover how they had made for themselves a senate house, wherein three hundred and twenty men sat in council daily, consulting alway for the people, to the end they might be well ordered:
|
8:16 Եւ մի մի այր ՛ի նոցանէն որ հաւատարիմ էր իշխան, գլո՛ւխ կացուցանէին տարւոյն, զի տիրեսցէ ՛ի վերայ ամենայն երկրի նոցա, եւ ամենեքեան հնազանդութեամբ լսէին միում. եւ ո՛չ ինչ գոյր հեռ եւ նախանձ ՛ի մէջ նոցա[199]:

8:16 And that they committed their government to one man every year, who ruled over all their country, and that all were obedient to that one, and that there was neither envy nor emmulation among them:
|
8:17 Ապա կարգեաց արս ընտիրս Յուդա յիւրաքանչիւր գնդէ անտի. զԱպողեմոս զԱկկոսեան զորդի Յովնաթանու, եւ զՅասոն զորդի Եղիազարու. եւ առաքեաց զնոսա ՛ի Հռոմ քաղաք, խնդրե՛լ ՛ի նոցանէ զհաշտութիւն եւ թիկունս[200]:

8:17 In consideration of these things, Judas chose Eupolemus the son of John, the son of Accos, and Jason the son of Eleazar, and sent them to Rome, to make a league of amity and confederacy with them:
|
8:18 Եւ զի բարձցեն զլուծն ՛ի պարանոցէ նոցա. քանզի ծանրացուցեա՛լ էր յունաց զլուծ ծառայութեան ՛ի վերայ պարանոցին Իսրայէլացւոց:
|
8:18 And to intreat them that they would take the yoke from them; for they saw that the kingdom of the Grecians did oppress Israel with servitude:
|
8:19 Եւ գնացին ՛ի կողմանս Հռոմայեցւոց: Եւ էր ճանապարհն մեծ. եկին հասին հրեշտակքն, եւ յանդիմա՛ն եղեն նոցա ՛ի տաճարին խորհրդոց. կացին ՛ի մէջ, եւ սկսան տա՛լ զպատգամն[201]:

8:19 They went therefore to Rome, which was a very great journey, and came into the senate, where they spake and said:
|
8:20 Յուդա Մակաբէ եւ եղբարք իւր, եւ ամենայն սպայ Հրէաստանեայց. խօսել ընդ ձեզ ՛ի հաշտութիւն. առնել զձեզ թիկունս, եւ խնդրել ՛ի ձէնջ խաղաղութիւն. զի եւ ձե՛զ եւս կամ լիցի, գրել ձեզ զմեզ նիզակակիցս եւ բարեկամս[202]:

8:20 Judas Maccabeus with his brethren, and the people of the Jews, have sent us unto you, to make a confederacy and peace with you, and that we might be registered your confederates and friends:
|
8:21 Եւ հաճո՛յ թուեցաւ բանն առաջի նոցա:
|
8:21 So that matter pleased the Romans well:
|
8:22 Եւ ա՛յս այն պատճէն է հրովարտակի նոցա զոր գրեցին նոքա առ նոսա ՛ի տախտակս պղնձիս եւ առաքեցին յԵրուսաղէմ. եւ առ իւրեանս թողին յիշատակ թիկանց եւ խաղաղութեան[203]:

8:22 And this is the copy of the epistle which the senate wrote back again in tables of brass, and sent to Jerusalem, that there they might have by them a memorial of peace and confederacy:
|
8:23 Խաղաղութիւն եւ բարի՛ք լիցին ընդ Հրէաստան, եւ ընդ Հռոմայեցւոց` ընդ ամենայն ընդ ծով եւ ընդ ցամաք. սուր եւ թշնամի հեռի՛ լիցի ՛ի նոցանէ[204]:

8:23 Good success be to the Romans, and to the people of the Jews, by sea and by land for ever: the sword also and enemy be far from them:
|
8:24 Ապա եթէ հասցէ պատերազմ նա՛խ ՛ի վերայ Հռոմայեցւոց, կամ ուրեք բարեկամաց նոցա` ընդ ամենայն տեղիս տէրութեան նոցա[205]:
|
8:24 If there come first any war upon the Romans or any of their confederates throughout all their dominion:
|
8:25 ՛ի թիկունս վաղվաղակի հասցէ գունդն Հրէաստանեայց, որպէս ժամանակն ցուցանէ նոցա` մտադեւր սրտի մտօք[206]:
|
8:25 The people of the Jews shall help them, as the time shall be appointed, with all their heart:
|
8:26 Եւ ՛ի թշնամի ինչ մի՛ տացեն, եւ մի՛ ձեռնտու լիցին արծաթով կամ ոսկւով` կամ զինու` կամ նաւօք: Ա՛յսպէս հաճո՛յ թուեցաւ Հռոմայեցւոց. զի պահեսցեն զպատուիրանդ զայդ առանց կաշառոյ:

8:26 Neither shall they give any thing unto them that make war upon them, or aid them with victuals, weapons, money, or ships, as it hath seemed good unto the Romans; but they shall keep their covenants without taking any thing therefore:
|
8:27 Սո՛յնպէս եթէ ՛ի վերայ ազգին Հրէից հասանիցէ պատերազմ, ՛ի թիկո՛ւնս վաղվաղակի հասցեն Հռոմայեցիք` միամտութեամբ սրտի մտօք. որպէս ժամանակն նոցա ցուցանիցէ[207]:

8:27 In the same manner also, if war come first upon the nation of the Jews, the Romans shall help them with all their heart, according as the time shall be appointed them:
|
8:28 Եւ ՛ի թշնամի ինչ ո՛չ տացեն, ոսկի կամ արծաթ կամ զէն կամ նաւս. որպէս հաճոյ թուեցաւ Հռոմայեցւոց: Պահեսցեն զպատուիրանս զայս առանց նենգութեան:

8:28 Neither shall victuals be given to them that take part against them, or weapons, or money, or ships, as it hath seemed good to the Romans; but they shall keep their covenants, and that without deceit:
|
8:29 Եւ ըստ բանիցս այսոցիկ ա՛յսպէս հաստատեցին Հռոմայեցիք ընդ գնդին Հրէից:
|
8:29 According to these articles did the Romans make a covenant with the people of the Jews:
|
8:30 Ապա եթէ յետ այդց բանից խորհուրդ ինչ ՛ի մէջ մտցէ սոցա կամ նոցա` հանե՛լ կամ յաւելուլ, որ ինչ դէպն տացէ` կարգեսցեն հասարակ հաւանութեամբ, եւ հաստատո՛ւն կացցեն:

8:30 Howbeit if hereafter the one party or the other shall think to meet to add or diminish any thing, they may do it at their pleasures, and whatsoever they shall add or take away shall be ratified:
|
8:31 Եւ վասն չարեաց արքային Դեմետրեայ որ հասուցանէ նոցա, գրեսցուք առ նա. գոգցուք. Ընդէ՞ր ծանրացուցանէք զլուծ ՛ի վերայ պարանոցի նիզակակից բարեկամաց մերոց[208]:

8:31 And as touching the evils that Demetrius doeth to the Jews, we have written unto him, saying, Wherefore thou made thy yoke heavy upon our friends and confederates the Jews:
|
8:32 Զա՛յս գիտասջիք` եթէ զքէն ամբաստան լիցին դոքա. դատաստա՛ն յիրաւի կալցուք, մա՛րտ պատերազմի տացուք ընդ քեզ, եթէ ընդ ծո՛վ իցէ` եթէ ընդ ցամաք[209]:

8:32 If therefore they complain any more against thee, we will do them justice, and fight with thee by sea and by land:
