Եւ թագաւորն Դարեհ արար խրախութիւն մեծ. եւ ժողովեաց զամենայն իշխանս իւր, եւ զընտոծինս իւր, եւ զամենայն մեծամեծս Մարաց, Պարսից, Քաղդեացւոց[31]:

1. Now king Darius made a great feast unto all his subjects, and unto all that were born in his house, and unto all the princes of Media and of Persia,

եւ զամենայն նախարարս եւ զզօրագլուխս, եւ զետեղակալս ընդ նոսա ’ի կողմանցն Հնդկաց, մինչեւ ’ի կողմանս Եթւովպացւոց. եւ էին նախարարք հարիւր քսանեւեւթն[32]:

եւ կերա՛ն եւ արբին, եւ յագեցան, եւ ուրա՛խ եղեն: Եւ յորժամ վախճա՛ն եղեւ` Դարեհ թագաւոր եմո՛ւտ ’ի սենեակ իւր. եւ ելեալ ’ի գահոյս իւր ’ի քո՛ւն եղեւ:

3. And when they had eaten and drunken, and being satisfied were gone home, then Darius the king went into his bedchamber, and slept, and awaked out of his sleep.

Յայնժամ երեք պատանիք որ էին սենեկապանք նորա. եւ մինչդեռ ’ի քո՛ւն կայր թագաւորն, նոքա ’ի ներքս ’ի սենեկի սպա՛ս կալեալ եւ պա՛հ ունէին նմա: Խօսել սկսան ընդ միմեանս եւ ասեն:

Եկա՛յք` իւրաքանչիւր ասասցուք բան մի, եւ որ ասասցէ իմաստո՛ւն եւ առաւել զօրաւոր քան զընկերս իւր` տացէ՛ նմա Դարեհ թագաւոր պարգե՛ւս մեծամեծս. եւ մեծ եւ անուանի երեւեսցի քան զամենեսեան[33]:

5. Let every one of us say one thing which shall be strongest: and he whose sentence shall seem wiser than the others, unto him shall Darius the king give great gifts, and great honours in token of victory:

եւ ծիրանիս զգեցուսցէ նմա, եւ ոսկի սպասուք արբցէ եւ կերիցէ, եւ ’ի վերայ ոսկեղինաց նստցի, եւ ննջեսցէ. եւ վարեսցէ երիվարս ոսկեսանձս. եւ խոյր բեհեզեայ թա՛գ կապեսցէ նմա, եւ մանեակ ոսկի ’ի պարանոցի նորա:

6. as, to be clothed in purple, to drink in gold, and to sleep upon gold, and a chariot with bridles of gold, and a headtire of fine linen, and a chain about his neck:

եւ ասեն. Յորժամ յարիցէ` տացուք ցնա զգիրդ. եւ ընտրեսցէ թագաւորն, եւ երեք մեծամեծք իշխանք Պարսից. եւ որոյ գտցի բան իմաստնագոյն` նմա՛ տացէ զյաղթողական պարգեւն[36]:

9. and said, When the king is risen, some shall give him the writing; and of whose side the king and the three princes of Persia shall judge that his sentence is the wisest, to him shall the victory be given, as it is written.

եւ զթագաւորաց եւ զտառապելոց` մի միտս առնէ. նո՛յնպէս զտեառն եւ զծառայի, զմեծատանց եւ զաղքատաց[39]:
