8:1 Այլ Յուդա Մակաբէ` եւ որ ընդ նմա էին. ոյք աստ անդ գաղտագողացեալ մտանէին ՛ի գեղս` ՛ի քաղաքս` եւ յագարակս. յի՛նքն արկանէին զազգատոհմն, եւ նուաճէր զՀրէայսն որ կացեալ էին հաստատութեամբ յուխտին իւրեանց. գո՛ւնդ լինէին յաւելուին բազմանային, լինէին իբրեւ վեց հազար այր[176]:

8:1 1. But Judas, who is also Maccabaeus, and they that were with him, making their way privily into the villages, called unto them their kinsfolk; and taking unto them such as had continued in the Jews’ religion, gathered together as many as six thousand.
8:1 Then Judas Maccabeus, and they that were with him, went privily into the towns, and called their kinsfolks together, and took unto them all such as continued in the Jews' religion, and assembled about six thousand men: |
8:2 կարդային առ Տէր ա՛յց առնել հայել ՛ի ժողովուրդ անդր որ կոխեա՛լ եղեւ ՛ի հեթանոսաց, գթա՛լ ՛ի վերայ տաճարին որ յամպարշտաց ձեռացն պղծեցաւ[177]:

8:2 2. And they called upon the Lord, to look upon the people that was oppressed by all; and to have compassion on the sanctuary also that had been profaned by the ungodly men;
8:2 And they called upon the Lord, that he would look upon the people that was trodden down of all; and also pity the temple profaned of ungodly men: |
8:3 Ողորմե՛լ ՛ի վերայ քաղաքին որ յապականութիւն եւ ՛ի սատակումն յատակացն հասուցանելոց էր, եւ հայել ՛ի գոչումն արեանցն:

8:3 3. and to have pity on the city also that was suffering ruin and ready to be made even with the ground; and to hearken to the blood that cried unto him;
8:3 And that he would have compassion upon the city, sore defaced, and ready to be made even with the ground; and hear the blood that cried unto him: |
8:4 յիշել զանմեղ մանկանցն կորուստ տարապարտուց. ածե՛լ զմտաւ զհայհոյանս անուանն սրբոյ:

8:4 4. and to remember also the lawless slaughter of the innocent infants, and the blasphemies that had been committed against his name; and to shew his hatred of wickedness.
8:4 And remember the wicked slaughter of harmless infants, and the blasphemies committed against his name; and that he would shew his hatred against the wicked: |
8:5 Իբրեւ կազմէ՛ր` լինէր զօրաժողով Մակաբէ, դիմակալ ինչ ո՛չ լինէին նմա հեթանոսքն. զի սրտմտութիւն բարկութեան մեծութեանցն աստուածութեան յողորմութիւն դարձաւ:

8:5 5. And when Maccabaeus had trained his men for service, the heathen at once found him irresistible, for that the wrath of the Lord was turned into pity.
8:5 Now when Maccabeus had his company about him, he could not be withstood by the heathen: for the wrath of the Lord was turned into mercy: |
8:6 Հասանէ՛ր ՛ի վերայ գիւղից եւ քաղաքաց, հրձի՛գ առնէր զամուր ամո՛ւր տեղիս թշնամեացն. անդրէն նուաճէ՛ր դարձուցանէր զըմբռնեալսն ՛ի թշնամեացն. մեծամեծ սաստիկ հարուածս ՛ի վերայ թշնամեացն հասուցանէր[178]:

8:6 6. And coming unawares he set fire to cities and villages. And in winning back the most important positions, putting to flight no small number of the enemies,
8:6 Therefore he came at unawares, and burnt up towns and cities, and got into his hands the most commodious places, and overcame and put to flight no small number of his enemies: |
8:7 Մանաւանդ զգիշե՛ր եւս իւր օգնական գործակից գտանէր. եւ համբաւ քաջութեանն ընդ ամենայն կողմանս ընթանայր:

8:7 7. he specially took advantage of the nights for such assaults. And his courage was loudly talked of everywhere.
8:7 But specially took he advantage of the night for such privy attempts, insomuch that the fruit of his holiness was spread every where: |
8:8 Իբրեւ զայն տեսանէր Փիլիպպոս, զի գամ քան զգամ ի՛րք առնն յառաջադէմ աջողէին, արքունի հրովարտակօք առ Պտղոմէոս սպարապետ Ստորին Ասորւոց եւ Տաճկաստանի` հրեշտակս առնէր, օգնական ՛ի թիկունս զօրս ՛ի ձեռն հասուցանել[179]:

8:8 8. But when Philip saw the man gaining ground by little and little, and increasing more and more in his prosperity, he wrote unto Ptolemy, the governor of Coelesyria and Phoenicia, that he should support the king’s cause.
8:8 So when Philip saw that this man increased by little and little, and that things prospered with him still more and more, he wrote unto Ptolemeus, the governor of Celosyria and Phenice, to yield more aid to the king' s affairs: |
8:9 Նա վաղվաղակի իբրեւ առնոյր զհրովարտակսն` զՆիկանովր Պատրոկղեանց զառաջին սիրելի աւագաց իւրոց ՛ի ձեռն գումարէր ո՛չ ինչ պակաս քան զքառասուն հազարաւ առ հասարա՛կ բառնալ ՛ի միջոյ` ջնջել զազգն Հրէից: Յանդիմանեաց նմա զԳորգի սպարապետ` զայր քա՛ջ իրաց պատերազմի, տեղեակ ամենայնի հմուտ[180]:

8:9 9. And quickly appointed Nicanor the of Patroclus, one of the Chief Friends, and sent him, in command of no fewer than twenty thousand of all nations, to destroy the whole race of Judaea; and with him he joined Gorgias also, a captain and one that had experience in matters of war.
8:9 Then forthwith choosing Nicanor the son of Patroclus, one of his special friends, he sent him with no fewer than twenty thousand of all nations under him, to root out the whole generation of the Jews; and with him he joined also Gorgias a captain, who in matters of war had great experience: |
8:10 Յա՛նձն առ Նիկանովր` զհարկն առաջին զոր տային Հռոմայեցւոց հարիւր քանքար` ՛ի Հրէից գերութենէ անտի լնուլ:

8:10 10. And Nicanor undertook by the captive Jews to make up for the king the tribute of two thousand talents which he was to pay to the Romans.
8:10 So Nicanor undertook to make so much money of the captive Jews, as should defray the tribute of two thousand talents, which the king was to pay to the Romans: |
8:11 Ա՛նդ հրաման տայր շուրջ զծովեզերօքն, կոչէ՛ր զվաճառականսն մարդագին ՛ի Հրէաստան. խոստանայր իննսո՛ւն իննսո՛ւն մա՛րդ տալ նոցա ՛ի քանքար մի. յայն ինչ ո՛չ հայէր որ յերկնից դատաստանն յԱմենակալէն կանխեալ պատրաստեա՛լ կայր ՛ի վերայ նորա[181]:

8:11 11. And immediately he sent unto the cities upon the sea coast, inviting them to buy Jewish slaves, promising to allow fourscore and ten slaves for a talent, not expecting the judgement that was to follow upon him from the Almighty.
8:11 Wherefore immediately he sent to the cities upon the sea coast, proclaiming a sale of the captive Jews, and promising that they should have fourscore and ten bodies for one talent, not expecting the vengeance that was to follow upon him from the Almighty God: |

8:12 12. But tidings came to Judas concerning the inroad of Nicanor; and when he communicated to them that were with him the presence of the army,
8:12 Now when word was brought unto Judas of Nicanor' s coming, and he had imparted unto those that were with him that the army was at hand: |
8:13 Նոքա առ վատասրտել իւրեանց` ա՛յսր անդր խուսափէին:

8:13 13. they that were cowardly and distrustful of the judgement of God ran away and left the country.
8:13 They that were fearful, and distrusted the justice of God, fled, and conveyed themselves away: |
8:14 եւ որ ինչ իւրեանց մնացեալ էր վաճառէին. եւ առ հասարակ զՏէր ամենակա՛լ աղաչէին, ապրե՛լ յանօրէն յանարժան ձեռանէ Նիկանովրայ. որ մինչչեւ՛ տեսեալ էր նորա, ընդ վաճառականս` անձանց նոցա գինս հատանէր[182]:

8:14 14. And others sold all that was left over to them, and withal besought the Lord to deliver them that had been sold by the impious Nicanor or ever he met them;

8:15 Իսկ արդ եթէ ո՛չ իսկ վասն նոցա, բայց սակայն վասն ընդ հարսն ուխտիցն եւ կտակարանացն, եւ վասն մեծի եւ սրբոյ անուանն իւրոյ փրկէ՛ր զնոսա ՛ի նմանէ[183]:

8:16 Զօրաժողո՛վ լինէր Մակաբէ որ զիւրեաւն էին արամբք իբրեւ վեց հազարաւ. մխիթարէր զնոսա` զի մի՛ պակասիցեն յայնչափ զօրաց բազմութենէ, եւ մի՛ վհատեսցին զո՛ւր տարապարտուց ՛ի վերայ եկելոց կուտելոց բազմութեան հեթանոսաց գնդին. այլ կա՛լ եւ մարտնչել քաջութեամբ[184]:

8:16 16. And Maccabaeus gathered his men together, six thousand in number, and exhorted them not to be stricken with dismay at the enemy, nor to fear the great multitude of the heathen who came wrongfully against them; but to contend nobly,
8:16 So Maccabeus called his men together unto the number of six thousand, and exhorted them not to be stricken with terror of the enemy, nor to fear the great multitude of the heathen, who came wrongly against them; but to fight manfully: |
8:17 Նախա՛նձ ՛ի մտի դնել զսրբութեան տեղւոյն զկատարեալ անարգանսն, եւ զհարեալ քաղաքին գերութեան զչարչարանսն. զնախնեաց սրբութեան զվարատել օրինացն[185]:

8:17 17. setting before their eyes the outrage that had been lawlessly perpetrated upon the holy place, and the shameful handling of the city that had been turned to mockery, and further the overthrow of the mode of life received from their ancestors.
8:17 And to set before their eyes the injury that they had unjustly done to the holy place, and the cruel handling of the city, whereof they made a mockery, and also the taking away of the government of their forefathers: |
8:18 Եւ նոքա ասէ` ՛ի զէնս յուսացեալ են եւ ՛ի զօրութիւնս իւրեանց. մեք յամենակալն Աստուած որ կարօղ է զայնոսիկ որ զմեզ յաչսն դնեն եւ զաշխարհ ամենայն, ՛ի մի շունչ ոգւոյ զօրութեան սատակել:

8:18 18. For they, said he, trust to arms, and withal to deeds of daring; but we trust on the almighty God, since he is able at a beck to cast down them that are coming against us, and even the whole world.
8:18 For they, said he, trust in their weapons and boldness; but our confidence is in the Almighty who at a beck can cast down both them that come against us, and also all the world: |
8:19 Եւ սկսաւ յո՛ւշ առնել զմիոյ միոյ զառաջնոցն զքաջութիւնս, եւ զօգնականութիւնս որ եղեալ էին ՛ի Տեառնէ: Յիշեցէ՛ք զՍենեքերիմ, եւ զութուտասն բիւրուն սատակումն միանգամայն[186]:

8:19 19. And moreover he recounted unto them the help given from time to time in the days of their ancestors, both the in the days of Sennacherib, how that a hundred fourscore and five thousand perished,
8:19 Moreover, he recounted unto them what helps their forefathers had found, and how they were delivered, when under Sennacherib an hundred fourscore and five thousand perished: |
8:20 Յո՛ւշ լիցի ձեզ պատերազմն Հռոմայեցւոց ընդ Գաղատացիս. զի ամենեքին առ հասարակ ՛ի գո՛րծ անդր հասեալ էին երկոտասան բիւրու. սոքա ելին վեց հազարաւ, առ հասարակ ՛ի միում ժամանակի զերկոտասան բեւրն առ հասարակ կոտորեցին, օգնականութեամբ լցեալ Բարձրելոյն:

8:20 20. and the in the land of Babylon, even the battle that was fought against the Gauls, how that they came to the engagement eight thousand in all, with four thousand Macedonians, the Macedonians being hard pressed, the six thousand destroyed the hundred and twenty thousand, because of the succour which they had from heaven, and took great booty.
8:20 And he told them of the battle that they had in Babylon with the Galatians, how they came but eight thousand in all to the business, with four thousand Macedonians, and that the Macedonians being perplexed, the eight thousand destroyed an hundred and twenty thousand because of the help that they had from heaven, and so received a great booty: |
8:21 Եւ այսու մխիթար քաջալե՛ր բանիւք վառէ՛ր պատրաստէր զնոսա ՛ի վերայ օրինացն եւ աշխարհին իւրեանց` մտադե՛ւր մարտնչել` համարձա՛կ մեռանել[187]:

8:23 Դարձեալ առ քաջալերութեան առ մխիթարութեան զօրացն` բերեալ զսուրբ զԵզրեայ մատեանսն առաջի` ընթեռնոյր: Իւրաքանչիւր զօրացն յանուն Տեառն նշանս բաշխէր. եւ առաջնոյ գնդին ինքնի՛ն զօրագլուխ պատրաստեալ, յարձակէ՛ր ՛ի դիմի՛ հարկանէր Նիկանովրայ[189]:

8:23 23. and moreover Eleazer also: having read aloud the sacred book, and having given as watchword, THE HELP OF GOD, leading the first band himself, he joined battle with Nicanor.

8:24 Իբրեւ օգնականութիւն յԱմենակալէն` նոցա ՛ի վերայ իջանէր, հասանէին հարկանէին ՛ի զօրաց անտի թշնամեացն աւելի քան զինն հազար սպառազէն, յառաջնում յարձակե՛լ անդ պակա՛ս առնէին: Եւ զայն խոց եւ խեղս եւ վիրաւորս առնէին. եւ շուրջ զբանակաւն` պա՛հ արկանէին[190]:

8:24 24. And, since the Almighty fought on their side, they slew of the enemy above nine thousand, and wounded and disabled the more part of Nicanor’s army, and compelled all to flee:
8:24 And by the help of the Almighty they slew above nine thousand of their enemies, and wounded and maimed the most part of Nicanor' s host, and so put all to flight: |
8:25 Եւ զինչս եւ զգանձս մարդագին վաճառականացն` իւրեա՛նց առնուին. եւ զմնացեալ զօրսն Նիկանովրայ առաջի իւրեանց փախստակա՛նս առնէին, մինչ օրն տարաժամէր[191]:

8:25 25. and they took the money of those that had come there to buy them. And after they had pursued them for some distance, they returned, being constrained by the time of the day;

8:26 Իբրեւ ժամ աւուրն ՛ի տարաժամել անկանէր, այսրէ՛ն վաղվաղակի տագնապաւ դառնային, եւ ո՛չ ընդերկար հալածէին զնոսա զի ՛ի վաղիւ անդր շաբա՛թ էր[192]:

8:26 26. for it was the day before the sabbath, and for this cause they made no effort to chase them far.

8:27 27. And when they had gathered the arms of the enemy together, and had stripped off their spoils, they occupied themselves about the sabbath, blessing and thanking the Lord exceedingly, who had saved them unto this day, for that he had caused a beginning of mercy to distil upon them.
8:27 So when they had gathered their armour together, and spoiled their enemies, they occupied themselves about the sabbath, yielding exceeding praise and thanks to the Lord, who had preserved them unto that day, which was the beginning of mercy distilling upon them: |
8:28 Յետ շաբաթուն` նեղելո՛ց եւ այրեա՛ց` եւ որբո՛ց մա՛սն առնէին յաւարէ անտի. եւ ապա ինքեանք ընդ բաժինս աւարին խառնէին:

8:28 28. And after the sabbath, when they had given of the spoils to the maimed, and to the widows and orphans, the residue they distributed among themselves and their children.

8:29 29. And when they had accomplished these things, and had made a common supplication, they besought the merciful Lord to be wholly reconciled with his servants.

8:30 Տիմոթէոս եւ Բադիգէս յոր գործ հասեալ էին. հասանէին բախէին հարկանէին սպանանէին ՛ի նոցանէ աւելի՛ քան զերկուս բեւրս. ամուրս բազումս եւ զբարձունս քաջութեամբ ունէին, բազում գանձս ընչի՛ց եւ ստացուածոց նոցա յաւարի՛ տանէին. բաժանակի՛ցս իւրեանց զտնանկս եւ զորբս եւ զծերս աւարին իւրեանց առնէին[194]:

And having had an encounter with the forces of Timotheus and Bacchides, they killed above twenty thousand of them, and made themselves masters of strongholds exceeding high, and divided very much plunder, giving the maimed and orphans and widows, and moreover the aged also, an equal share with themselves.
8:30 Moreover of those that were with Timotheus and Bacchides, who fought against them, they slew above twenty thousand, and very easily got high and strong holds, and divided among themselves many spoils more, and made the maimed, orphans, widows, yea, and the aged also, equal in spoils with themselves: |
8:31 Զզէնս սպանանելոցն քաղէին, ՛ի պիտոյս տեղիս թողուին. եւ ինքեանք աւարաւն յԵրուսաղէմ առ նահապետս ազգացն գային[195]:

8:31 31. And when they had gathered the arms of the enemy together, they stored them all up carefully in the most important positions, and the residue of the spoils they carried to Jerusalem.

8:32 32. And they killed the phylarch of Timotheus’s forces, a most unholy man, and one who had done the Jews much hurt.
8:32 They slew also Philarches, that wicked person, who was with Timotheus, and had annoyed the Jews many ways: |
8:33 Ժողովեցին զմարդիկ գաւառացն. օր ուրախութեան առնէին, նշա՛ն յաղթութեան կանգնէին. ածէին զԿալիսթենէս փախստեա՛յ եւ որ զնովաւն էին, որոց զդրունսն լուցեալ էր` կենդանւոյն այրէին[196]:

8:33 33. And as they kept the feast of victory in the city of their fathers, they burned those that had set the sacred gates on fire, Callisthenes, who had fled into an outhouse; and they received the meet reward of their impiety.
8:33 Furthermore at such time as they kept the feast for the victory in their country they burnt Callisthenes, that had set fire upon the holy gates, who had fled into a little house; and so he received a reward meet for his wickedness: |
8:34 Իսկ յամենայն կողմանց թշուառացեալ Նիկանովր. որ զհազար վաճառականսն ՛ի մարդագի՛ն ածէր որդւոց Հրէիցն:

8:34 34. And the thrice-accursed Nicanor, who had brought the thousand merchants to buy the Jews
8:34 As for that most ungracious Nicanor, who had brought a thousand merchants to buy the Jews: |
8:35 մեծա՛ւ տառապանօք թշուառութեամբ անկեալ ՛ի փառացն հանդերձէ հրամանաւ Տեառն, գձձեալ ընդ մուրօղս անկեալ, մե՛ծ սուգ առեալ վասն զօրացն կորստեան, փախստեա՛յ կորացեալ ՛ի քաղաքն Անտիոքացւոց անկանէր[197]:

8:35 35. being through the help of the Lord humbled by them who in his eyes were held to be of least account, put off his glorious apparel, and through the midland, shunning all company like a fugitive slave, arrived at Antioch, having, had the greatest possible good fortune, though his host was destroyed.
8:35 He was through the help of the Lord brought down by them, of whom he made least account; and putting off his glorious apparel, and discharging his company, he came like a fugitive servant through the midland unto Antioch having very great dishonour, for that his host was destroyed: |
8:36 Եւ որ զՀռոմայեցւոցն խոստանայր զհարկն յԵրուսաղեմացւոց գերութենէ անտի լնուլ, ինքնին նովի՛ն բերանով պատմէր` թէ յայտնի Աստուած է նոցա օգնական. վասն այսորիկ ողջանդամք եւ առանց խոցոտելոյ ՛ի պատերազմէ ելանեն. զի հաստատութեամբ ուրեմն պահեն զօրէնս որ ՛ի նմանէ կալեալ է[198]:

8:36 36. And he that had taken upon him to make tribute sure for the Romans by the captivity of the men of Jerusalem published abroad that the Jews had One who fought for them, and that because this was so the Jews were invulnerable, because they followed the laws ordained by him. 8:36 Thus he, that took upon him to make good to the Romans their tribute by means of captives in Jerusalem, told abroad, that the Jews had God to fight for them, and therefore they could not be hurt, because they followed the laws that he gave them: |
