Ո՛րդեակ` ընտրութեամբ արա՛ բարի մարդոյ, զի ՛ի նմանէ շնորհս բարեաց գտցես:

1. If thou do good, know to whom thou doest it; And thy good deeds shall have thanks.
12:1 When thou wilt do good know to whom thou doest it; so shalt thou be thanked for thy benefits:
12:2
Բարի՛ արա բարեաց` զի փոխարէն լիցի քեզ. եւ թէ ՛ի նմանէ ոչ` սակայն ՛ի Բարձրելոյն:

2. Do good to a godly man, and thou shalt find a recompense; And if not from him, yet from the Most High.
12:2 Do good to the godly man, and thou shalt find a recompence; and if not from him, yet from the most High. KJV [3] There can no good come to him that is always occupied in evil, nor to him that giveth no alms. KJV [4] Give to the godly man, and help not a sinner:
12:5
Բարի արա՛ խոնարհին` եւ մի՛ ձեռն տար ամբարշտին:

3. There shall no good come to him that continueth to do evil, Nor to him that giveth no alms.
12:5 Do well unto him that is lowly, but give not to the ungodly: hold back thy bread, and give it not unto him, lest he overmaster thee thereby:
12:7
զի մի՛ կրկի՛ն չար փոխարէն բարեացն ՛ի նմանէ գտցես: Ահա եւ Բարձրեալն ատեաց զմեղաւորս, եւ ամբարշտի հատուցանէ հատուցումն:

4. Give to the godly man, And help not the sinner.
12:7 for [else] thou shalt receive twice as much evil for all the good thou shalt have done unto him. For the most High hateth sinners, and will repay vengeance unto the ungodly, and keepeth them against the mighty day of their punishment. KJV [7] Give unto the good, and help not the sinner:
12:8
՛Ի վերայ բարեաց բարեկամ ո՛չ երեւի, եւ ՛ի վերայ չարեաց թշնամի ո՛չ թագչի:

12:8
5. Do good to one that is lowly, And give not to an ungodly man: Keep back his bread, and give it not to him, Lest he overmaster thee thereby: For thou shalt receive twice as much evil For all the good thou shalt have done unto him.
12:8 A friend cannot be known in prosperity: and an enemy cannot be hidden in adversity. KJV [9] In the prosperity of a man enemies will be grieved: but in his adversity even a friend will depart:
12:10
Մի՛ հաւատար թշնամւոյ քո ամենեւին` զի որպէս պղինձ զունողաց ձեռս ժանգոտէ[48]:

6. For the Most High also hateth sinners, And will repay vengeance unto the ungodly.
12:10 Never trust thine enemy: for like as iron rusteth, so is his wickedness:
12:11
Զգո՛յշ լեր` զանձն քո պահեա՛ ՛ի նմանէ, եւ եղիցիս դու անձին քում որպէս հայելի ջնջեալ:

7. Give to the good man, And help not the sinner.
12:11 Though he humble himself, and go crouching, yet take good heed and beware of him, and thou shalt be unto him as if thou hadst wiped a lookingglass, and thou shalt know that his rust hath not been altogether wiped away:

Յաջմէ քո մի՛ նստուցաներ զնա` զի մի՛ խնդրեսցէ զտեղի քո. եւ յետոյ յիշեսցես զբանս իմ[49]:

8. A man’s friend will not be fully tried in prosperity; And his enemy will not be hidden in adversity.
12:12 Set him not by thee, lest, when he hath overthrown thee, he stand up in thy place; neither let him sit at thy right hand, lest he seek to take thy seat, and thou at the last remember my words, and be pricked therewith:
12:13
Զի զթովիչ օձահար` ո՞վ ապաշաւէ. եւ կամ զայն` որ մխէ զձեռն իւր ՛ի բերան գազանաց. սոյնպէս եւ որ մերձենայ յանօրէն` թաթաւի ՛ի մեղս նորա[50]:

9. In a man’s prosperity his enemies are grieved; And in his adversity even his friend will be separated
12:13 Who will pity a charmer that is bitten with a serpent, or any such as come nigh wild beasts? So one that goeth to a sinner, and is defiled with him in his sins, who will pity:
12:14
եւ թէ առ ժամ մի խոյս տայ գործոյն, կամակիցն ո՛չ համբերէ:

12:14
10. Never trust thine enemy: For like as the brass rusteth, so is his wickedness.
12:14 For a while he will abide with thee, but if thou begin to fall, he will not tarry:
12:15
Նոյնպէս թշնամի քաղցր է շրթամբք, եւ ՛ի սրտի իւրում խորհի կործանել զքեզ:

11. Though he humble himself, and go crouching, Yet take good heed, and beware of him, And thou shalt be unto him as one that hath wiped a mirror, And thou shalt know that he hath not utterly rusted it.
12:15 An enemy speaketh sweetly with his lips, but in his heart he imagineth how to throw thee into a pit:
12:16
Մզէ զարտասուս առաջի քո, այլ թէ ժամ գտանէ` արեամբ քո ո՛չ յագի:

12:16
12. Set him not by thee, Lest he overthrow thee and stand in thy place; Let him not sit on thy right hand, Lest he seek to take thy seat, And at the last thou acknowledge my words, And be pricked with my sayings.
12:16 he will weep with his eyes, but if he find opportunity, he will not be satisfied with blood:
12:17
Եթէ քեզ չար դիպի` առաջի քո չար գտանես զնա: Կարծիս տայ օգնել քեզ:

12:17
13. Who will pity a charmer that is bitten with a serpent, Or any that come nigh wild beasts?
12:17 If adversity come upon thee, thou shalt find him there first; and though he pretend to help thee, yet shall he undermine thee:
12:18
եւ շարժէ զգլուխ իւր` թէ ե՛րբ գտից ժամանակ կործանել զբարեկամս:

12:18
14. Even so him that goeth to a sinner, And is mingled with him in his sins?
12:18 He will shake his head, and clap his hands, and whisper much:
12:19
Եւ զերեսս իւր շրջէ յոգւոց հանելով, այլ ո՛չ եւս տեսանել զքեզ կենդանի:

12:19
15. For a while he will abide with thee, And if thou give way, he will not hold out.
