2:1 Յաւուրս ժամանակացն այնոցիկ համբարձա՛ւ Մատաթի Շմաւոնեան որդի Յովհաննու, քահանայ յորդւոցն Յովարիմ յԵրուսաղեմէ, եկն եւ նստաւ նա յամուրս այրիցն ՛ի Մովդիիմ[27]:

2:1 In those days arose Mattathias the son of John, the son of Simeon, a priest of the sons of Joarib, from Jerusalem, and dwelt in Modin:
|
2:2 Եւ նորա էին որդիք հինգ. Յովհաննէս` որ անուանեալ կոչի Կադդիշ:
|
2:2 And he had five sons, Joannan, called Caddis:
|
2:3 Շմաւոն` որ անուանեալ Թարսսի[28]:
|
2:3 Simon; called Thassi:
|
2:4 Յուդաս` որ անուանեալ է Մակաբէ:
|
2:4 Judas, who was called Maccabeus:
|
2:5 Եղիազար` որ անուանեալ է Աւարան, Յովնաթան` որ կոչեցաւ Սափութ[29]:
|
2:5 Eleazar, called Avaran: and Jonathan, whose surname was Apphus:
|
2:6 Եւ իբրեւ ետես նա զհայհոյութիւնսն որ լինէին ՛ի Հրէաստանի եւ ՛ի մէջ Երուսաղեմի:
|
2:6 And when he saw the blasphemies that were committed in Juda and Jerusalem:
|
2:7 սկսաւ ողբալ յանձն իւր` եւ ասէ. Վա՛յ ինձ. իսկ ընդէ՞ր պատրաստեցաւ բնաւ տեսանել ինձ զբեկումն ժողովրդեան իմոյ, եւ կամ տեսանել զբեկումն սրբոյ քաղաքին Երուսաղեմի. զի կա՛ց մնա՛ց նա մատնեալ ՛ի ձեռս թշնամեաց իւրոց[30]:

2:7 He said, Woe is me! wherefore was I born to see this misery of my people, and of the holy city, and to dwell there, when it was delivered into the hand of the enemy, and the sanctuary into the hand of strangers:
|
2:8 եւ սրբութիւնն մատնեցաւ ՛ի ձեռս օտարաց. եւ եղեւ տաճարն իբրեւ ա՛յր մի զի անկեալ ՛ի փառաց[31]:
|
2:8 Her temple is become as a man without glory:
|
2:9 եւ սպաս փառաց նորա իբրեւ մարդ` որ մատնեցաւ ՛ի գերութիւն: Կոտորեցան տղայք նորա ՛ի փողոցս իւրում, եւ երիտասարդք նորա ՛ի սուր թշնամեաց[32]:
|
2:9 Her glorious vessels are carried away into captivity, her infants are slain in the streets, her young men with the sword of the enemy:
|
2:10 Իսկ ո՞ր ազգ իցէ որ ո՛չ ժառանգեաց զտէրութիւն նորա. եւ կամ ո՞վ իցէ` որ ո՛չ հար աւար զկապուտ նորա, եւ ո՛չ յաղթեցին աւարի նորա[33]:
|
2:10 What nation hath not had a part in her kingdom and gotten of her spoils:
|
2:11 Ամենայն զարդք նորա զերծաւ ՛ի նմանէ. փոխանակ ազատութեանն` մատնեցաւ ՛ի ստրկութիւն:
|
2:11 All her ornaments are taken away; of a free woman she is become a bondslave:
|
2:12 եւ ամենայն գեղ զարդուն մերոյ, եւ սրբութիւնն մեր, եւ փառքն մեր յաւա՛ր կործանեցան. եւ զայս ամենայն պղծեցին հեթանոսք:
|
2:12 And, behold, our sanctuary, even our beauty and our glory, is laid waste, and the Gentiles have profaned it:
|
2:13 եւ զի՞ պիտոյ են բնաւ մեզ այս կեանք:
|
2:13 To what end therefore shall we live any longer:
|
2:14 Յա՛յնմ ժամանակի Մատաթի եւ որդիքն ձեռն զօձեօք արկանէին եւ զպատմուճանս պատառէին, քրձազգա՛ծ լինէին, եւ ՛ի սո՛ւգ մտանէին[34]:
|
2:14 Then Mattathias and his sons rent their clothes, and put on sackcloth, and mourned very sore:
|
2:15 Եկի՛ն հասին ՛ի թագաւորէ անտի` որ ստիպաւ տագնապէին զապստամբութիւնն. եւ եկին ՛ի քաղաքն ՛ի Մովդիիմ, զի անդ զոհս մատուսցեն:
|
2:15 In the mean while the king' s officers, such as compelled the people to revolt, came into the city Modin, to make them sacrifice:
|
2:16 եւ բազումք յԻսրայէլացւոց անտի ընդ նոսա. եկի՛ն ժողովեցան առ նոսա` եւ Մատաթի եւ որդիքն[35]:
|
2:16 And when many of Israel came unto them, Mattathias also and his sons came together:
|
2:17 Հա՛պա, խօսել սկսան որ եկեալ էին ՛ի թագաւորէ անտի, եւ ասեն ցՄատաթի. Իշխան փառաւո՛ր ես դու` եւ մե՛ծ ես դու ՛ի քաղաքիս յայսմիկ. որդւովք եւ եղբարբք հաստատեալ դու ՛ի մէջ սոցա[36]:
|
2:17 Then answered the king' s officers, and said to Mattathias on this wise, Thou art a ruler, and an honourable and great man in this city, and strengthened with sons and brethren:
|
2:18 Արդ մատի՛ր նախ` դո՛ւ արա՛ զհրաման կամաց թագաւորին, որպէս եւ արարին ազգքն ամենայն արք Հրէաստանեայք, եւ ամենայն որ բնակեալ են յԵրուսաղէմ. եւ եղիջի՛ք դուք բարեկամք արքայի, եւ դու` եւ որդիքդ պատուեսջիք ոսկւով եւ արծաթով, եւ հրովարտակօք արքունի[37]:

2:18 Now therefore come thou first, and fulfil the king' s commandment, like as all the heathen have done, yea, and the men of Juda also, and such as remain at Jerusalem: so shalt thou and thy house be in the number of the king' s friends, and thou and thy children shall be honoured with silver and gold, and many rewards:
|
2:19 Պատասխանի՛ ետ Մատաթի ՛ի ձայն մեծ եւ ասէ. Եթէ ամենայն ազինք ՛ի տա՛ն թագաւորին ունկնդիր են հրամանաց թագաւորին, ապստամբեալ եւ ելեալ են յիւրաքանչիւր հա՛րցն օրինաց, եւ ընտրեցին նոքա զպատուէրն թագաւորին:

2:19 Then Mattathias answered and spake with a loud voice, Though all the nations that are under the king' s dominion obey him, and fall away every one from the religion of their fathers, and give consent to his commandments:
|
2:20 Սակայն ե՛ս եւ որդիք եւ եղբարք իմ ըստ պատուիրանա՛ց հարցն մերոց գնասցուք:
|
2:20 Yet will I and my sons and my brethren walk in the covenant of our fathers:
|
2:21 Քա՛ւ լիցի մեզ թողուլ զօրէնս եւ զիրաւունս Աստուծոյ[38]:
|
2:21 God forbid that we should forsake the law and the ordinances:
|
2:22 եւ ՛ի հրամանս դառնալ թագաւորի. ո՛չ թողումք զպաշտօն հարցն. ո՛չ թիւրիմք յա՛ջ կամ յահեակ. եւ ո՛չ անսամք հրամանի թագաւորին:
|
2:22 We will not hearken to the king' s words, to go from our religion, either on the right hand, or the left:
|
2:23 Ա՛յն ինչ նորա բանքն ՛ի բերան էին, ա՛յր մի ՛ի Հրէից անտի` յանդիմա՛ն ամենեցուն յառա՛ջ կաց զո՛հս մատուցանել առաջի մեհենին ՛ի բագնի անդ ՛ի Մովդիիմ, ըստ հրամանի թագաւորին[39]:
|
2:23 Now when he had left speaking these words, there came one of the Jews in the sight of all to sacrifice on the altar which was at Modin, according to the king' s commandment:
|
2:24 Իբրեւ ետես Մատաթի` ՛ի նախանձ բարկութեան բրդեցաւ, երիկամունք իւր զդողանի՛ հարան, եւ լի՛ եղեւ սրտմտութեամբ բարկութեամբ ըստ օրինաց դատաստանին. զո՛տս արձակեաց` հար զՀրեայն եւ անդէն սատակեաց առաջի բագնին[40]:

2:24 Which thing when Mattathias saw, he was inflamed with zeal, and his reins trembled, neither could he forbear to shew his anger according to judgment: wherefore he ran, and slew him upon the altar:
|
2:25 Եւ զա՛յրն որ արքունի հրամանաւն տագնապէր զզոհսն մատուցանել, անդէ՛ն սպանանէր, զբագինն կործանէր զմեհեանն աւերէր:
|
2:25 Also the king' s commissioner, who compelled men to sacrifice, he killed at that time, and the altar he pulled down:
|
2:26 խնդրէր զնախանձն օրինաց. որպէս արար Փենէէս ընդ Զամբրի ընդ որդին Եդոմայ:
|
2:26 Thus dealt he zealously for the law of God like as Phinees did unto Zambri the son of Salom:
|
2:27 ՛Ի ձա՛յն բարձր աղաղակել սկսաւ` եւ ասել. Հա՛պա` ամենայն մարդ որ դիցէ ՛ի մտի իւրում խնդրել զնախանձ վրիժուց օրինացն. որ ընդ հաստատութիւն կամիցի օրինացն` զհե՛տ իմ ելցէ:

2:27 And Mattathias cried throughout the city with a loud voice, saying, Whosoever is zealous of the law, and maintaineth the covenant, let him follow me:
|
2:28 Խաղացին փախստեա՛յ գնացին, նա՛ եւ եղբա՛րք իւր ընդ լերինս, եւ թողին զամենայն զինչս իւրեանց անդէն ՛ի քաղաքի:
|
2:28 So he and his sons fled into the mountains, and left all that ever they had in the city:
|
2:29 Յայնմ ժամանակի իջին բազումք որք խնդրէին զիրաւունս եւ զարդարութիւն յանապա՛տ անդր[41]:
|
2:29 Then many that sought after justice and judgment went down into the wilderness, to dwell there:
|
2:30 նստել անդ կանամբք եւ որդւովք եւ անասնովք հանդերձ. զի խստացան չարիքն ՛ի վերայ նոցա:
|
2:30 Both they, and their children, and their wives; and their cattle; because afflictions increased sore upon them:
|
2:31 Ա՛զդ եղեւ իշխանաց թագաւորին եւ զօրաց որ էին ՛ի քաղաքին Դաւթի, եթէ իջին արք ոմանք յամուրս անապատի որ իշխեցին ցրել զհրաման թագաւորին, եւ բազումք միաբանեալ իջին ընդ նոսա:
|
2:31 Now when it was told the king' s servants, and the host that was at Jerusalem, in the city of David, that certain men, who had broken the king' s commandment, were gone down into the secret places in the wilderness:
|
2:32 Ժա՛մ ետուն, կազմեցան, պատրաստեցան, հեծան, հասին, պատեցին զամուրս անապատին. եկին ՛ի մա՛րտ պատերազմի, եւ փակեցին զնոսա յաւուրս շաբաթուց:
|
2:32 They pursued after them a great number, and having overtaken them, they camped against them, and made war against them on the sabbath day:
|
2:33 Նախ բանագնաց եղեն, սկսան խօսել ընդ նոսա` եւ ասեն. Գոնէ արդ յայսմհետէ կացէ՛ք ՛ի հրամանի թագաւորին, եւ կեցջիք[42]:
|
2:33 And they said unto them, Let that which ye have done hitherto suffice; come forth, and do according to the commandment of the king, and ye shall live:
|
2:34 Անդուստ խօսել սկսան եւ ասեն. Ո՛չ ըստ ամուրս ելանեմք. ո՛չ ըստ այդմ բանի հրամանի թագաւորին պղծեմք զշաբաթս մեր. եւ ո՛չ անօրինիմք յօրէնս մեր[43]:
|
2:34 But they said, We will not come forth, neither will we do the king' s commandment, to profane the sabbath day:
|
2:35 Իբրեւ զայն բան լուան, սաստկացուցի՛ն զպատերազմ առաւե՛լ ՛ի վերայ նոցա, եւ պնդեցին զամուրսն յառնուլ զնոսա[44]:
|
2:35 So then they gave them the battle with all speed:
|
2:36 Նոքա ո՛չ զկիրճս առին, ո՛չ գիլս արձակեցին, ո՛չ զամուրսն փակեցին, եւ ո՛չ բնաւ բանիցն ետուն պատասխանի, վասն աւուրն շաբաթուն:
|
2:36 Howbeit they answered them not, neither cast they a stone at them, nor stopped the places where they lay hid:
|
2:37 բայց միայն լո՛կ զմիմեանս քաջալերէին. ասէ. Աստէ՛ն մեռցուք ՛ի սրտմտութեան մերում. զի ա՛ւադիկ վկա՛յ են մեզ երկինք եւ երկիր, զի ՛ի զո՛ւր տարապարտուց կորուսանէք զմեզ. այլ մեզ լա՛ւ լիցի մեռանել, քան թէ ըստ օրէնս անցանիցեմք, եւ զշաբաթս պղծիցեմք[45]:
|
2:37 But said, Let us die all in our innocency: heaven and earth will testify for us, that ye put us to death wrongfully:
|
2:38 Իբրեւ զայն լուան, սաստկացուցին զպատերազմ յաւուրն շաբաթու, եւ սպանին ՛ի նոցանէ հազար ոգի, թո՛ղ զմարդ եւ զանասուն զոր ՛ի գերութեան վարեցին[46]:
|
2:38 So they rose up against them in battle on the sabbath, and they slew them, with their wives and children and their cattle, to the number of a thousand people:
|
2:39 Իբրեւ զայն լուան Մատաթի եւ եղբարքն իւր, սուգ մե՛ծ առին եւ տրտմեցան յոյժ:
|
2:39 Now when Mattathias and his friends understood hereof, they mourned for them right sore:
|
2:40 Սկսան խօսել ա՛յր ընդ ընկերի` եւ ասեն. Եթէ ամենեքին զա՛յն օրինակ ունիմք զոր արարին եղբարքն մեր, եւ ո՛չ ելին տալ պատերազմ ընդ հեթանոսս ՛ի վերայ անձանց` եւ ՛ի վերայ իրաւանց մերոց, քան սակաւ ինչ ժամանակ անցեալ իցէ, զմեզ արագագոյն եւս սատակեսցեն քան զառաջինսն[47]:
|
2:40 And one of them said to another, If we all do as our brethren have done, and fight not for our lives and laws against the heathen, they will now quickly root us out of the earth:
|
2:41 Հա՛պա, ժողովեցան, ուխտ եդին, խորհուրդ խորհեցան ընդ միմեանս` եւ ասեն. Ամենայն մարդ որ եկեսցէ ՛ի վերայ մեր ՛ի մարտ պատերազմի յաւուրս շաբաթու, համարձա՛կ մարտիցուք եւ մի՛ առհասարակ ամենեքեան սատակեսցուք, որպէս եւ եղբարքն մեր որ ապրեալ էին յանապատի անդ[48]:
|
2:41 At that time therefore they decreed, saying, Whosoever shall come to make battle with us on the sabbath day, we will fight against him; neither will we die all, as our brethren that were murdered im the secret places:
|
2:42 Յայնմ ժամանակի ժողով լինէր առ նոսա բազում զօրաց Ասիտացւոց, ազգ հզօր եւ պատերազմօղ յորդւոցն Իսրայէլի. այր ամենայն ինքնակամ նահատակեա՛լ ՛ի վերայ օրինացն[49]:
|
2:42 Then came there unto him a company of Assideans who were mighty men of Israel, even all such as were voluntarily devoted unto the law:
|
2:43 Եւ ամենայն փախստեայք յիւրաքանչիւր չարեաց` գային յաւելուին ՛ի նոսա. եւ լինէր նոցա հաստատութիւն զօրութեան:
|
2:43 Also all they that fled for persecution joined themselves unto them, and were a stay unto them:
|
2:44 Զօր կազմեցին եւ գո՛ւնդ բովանդակեցին, պատրաստեցան, հարին զմեղաւորս ՛ի զօրութիւն բարկութեան իւրեանց, եւ զզօրս անօրէնս ՛ի սրտմտութիւն բարկութեան իւրեանց. եւ որ զմնացեալսն փախստեայս ՛ի հեթանոսս արկանէին:
|
2:44 So they joined their forces, and smote sinful men in their anger, and wicked men in their wrath: but the rest fled to the heathen for succour:
|
2:45 զհե՛տ խաղայր Մատաթի եղբարբքն եւ բարեկամօքն հանդերձ, հասանէր հարկանէր աւերէր զմեհեանսն, կործանէր զբագինսն:
|
2:45 Then Mattathias and his friends went round about, and pulled down the altars:
|
2:46 թլփատէր զմանկունս անթլփատս. եւ զօրանա՛յր ՛ի վերայ սահմանացն Իսրայէլացւոց:
|
2:46 And what children soever they found within the coast of Israel uncircumcised, those they circumcised valiantly:
|
2:47 հալածակա՛նս առնէր զորդիսն հպարտութեան: Եւ աջողեցաւ գործն ՛ի ձեռս նոցա:
|
2:47 They pursued also after the proud men, and the work prospered in their hand:
|
2:48 այցելու լինել օրինացն, վրէժխնդի՛ր լինել ՛ի ձեռացն հեթանոսաց, եղծանել զանօրէն հրաման թագաւորին. եւ ո՛չ ետուն բարձրանալ եղջեւրն ամբարտաւանութեան:
|
2:48 So they recovered the law out of the hand of the Gentiles, and out of the hand of kings, neither suffered they the sinner to triumph:
|
2:49 Իբրեւ մերձեցան աւուրքն Մատաթեայ մեռանելոյ, կոչեաց զորդիսն առաջի իւր, եւ ասէ ցնոսա. Այժմիկ հաստատեցա՛ւ հպարտութիւն եւ ամբարտաւանութիւն. եւ ահա հասեալ է ժամանակ կշտամբութեան կործանման եւ հպարտութեան[50]:
|
2:49 Now when the time drew near that Mattathias should die, he said unto his sons, Now hath pride and rebuke gotten strength, and the time of destruction, and the wrath of indignation:
|
2:50 Բայց արդ որդեա՛կք իմ, եկա՛յք նախանձեցարո՛ւք զնախանձ օրինացն, փոխանակեցէ՛ք դիք զանձինս ձեր փոխանակ հա՛րցն կտակարանաց[51]:
|
2:50 Now therefore, my sons, be ye zealous for the law, and give your lives for the covenant of your fathers:
|
2:51 Յիշեցէ՛ք զգործս հարցն ձերոց, որ ինչ քաջութիւնս արարին ՛ի դարս իւրաքանչիւր. ստացարո՛ւք փառս աւագութեան, եւ ժառանգեցէ՛ք զանուն յաւիտենից:
|
2:51 Call to remembrance what acts our fathers did in their time; so shall ye receive great honour and an everlasting name:
|
2:52 Աբրահամ ապաքէն ՛ի փորձութեան ՛ի հանդիսի գտաւ հաւատարիմ, եւ համարեցա՛ւ նմա յարդարութիւն[52]:
|
2:52 Was not Abraham found faithful in temptation, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness:
|
2:53 Յովսէփ ՛ի ժամանակի նեղութեան իւրոյ պահեա՛ց զպատուիրանն, եւ եղեւ տէ՛ր ՛ի վերայ երկրին Եգիպտացւոց:
|
2:53 Joseph in the time of his distress kept the commandment and was made lord of Egypt:
|
2:54 Փենէէս հա՛յր մեր նախանձայո՛յզ` նախանձեցաւ զնախանձն արդարութեան, եւ ա՛ռ կտակ յաւիտենից զքահանայութեանն:
|
2:54 Phinees our father in being zealous and fervent obtained the covenant of an everlasting priesthood:
|
2:55 Յեսու որդի Նաւեայ` առ հաստատել կատարել զպատգամս Տեառն, եղեւ դատաւոր որդւոցն Իսրայէլի:
|
2:55 Jesus for fulfilling the word was made a judge in Israel:
|
2:56 Քաղեբ` վասն վկայելոյն ՛ի մէջ ժողովրդեանն, տէ՛ր եղեւ ժառանգութեանն:
|
2:56 Caleb for bearing witness before the congregation received the heritage of the land:
|
2:57 Դաւիթ` վասն հեզութեան արդարութեան ողորմութեան` ժառանգեաց զաթոռ թագաւորութեան յաւիտենից:
|
2:57 David for being merciful possessed the throne of an everlasting kingdom:
|
2:58 Եղիա` վասն նախանձայոյզ նախանձու խնդրելոյ զվրէժն օրինաց` վերացաւ յերկինս[53]:
|
2:58 Elias for being zealous and fervent for the law was taken up into heaven:
|
2:59 Անանիա` Ազարիա` եւ Միսայէլ` հաւատովքն իւրեանց ապրեցա՛ն ՛ի հրոյն ՛ի հնոցէ:
|
2:59 Ananias, Azarias, and Misael, by believing were saved out of the flame:
|
2:60 Դանիէլ` ՛ի խորհուրդս միամտութեան իւրոյ` փրկեցաւ յառիւծուցն բերանոյ[54]:
|
2:60 Daniel for his innocency was delivered from the mouth of lions:
|
2:61 Արդ` ա՛յդպէս ածէք զմտաւ, եթէ ամենեքին որ յուսացեալ են ՛ի նա ըստ ազգս ազգս իւրեանց` ո՛չ տկարասցին:
|
2:61 And thus consider ye throughout all ages, that none that put their trust in him shall be overcome:
|
2:62 Եւ ՛ի բանից առն ամբարշտի մի՛ զանգիտիցէք, զի փառք նորա աղբեղէ՛նք են:
|
2:62 Fear not then the words of a sinful man: for his glory shall be dung and worms:
|
2:63 այսօր եւ վաղիւ, եւ այլ ո՛չ գտանի. զի դառնա՛յ նա ՛ի հող իւր, եւ կորնչին ամենայն խորհուրդք նորա[55]:
|
2:63 To day he shall be lifted up and to morrow he shall not be found, because he is returned into his dust, and his thought is come to nothing:
|
2:64 Զօրացարո՛ւք որդիք, քա՛ջ լերուք ՛ի վերայ օրինացն, զի ՛ի նմին փառաւորեսջիք:
|
2:64 Wherefore, ye my sons, be valiant and shew yourselves men in the behalf of the law; for by it shall ye obtain glory:
|
2:65 Եւ աւադիկ Շմաւոն եղբայր ձեր, գիտեմ զի այր խորհրդակա՛ն է, դմա՛ լուիջիք. դա ձեզ լիցի ՛ի տեղւոջ հօր:
|
2:65 And behold, I know that your brother Simon is a man of counsel, give ear unto him alway: he shall be a father unto you:
|
2:66 Եւ Յուդա Մակաբէ. դա լիցի ձեզ սպարապետ զօրավա՛ր զօրացդ, եւ տացէ պատերա՛զմ ընդ զօրս:
|
2:66 As for Judas Maccabeus, he hath been mighty and strong, even from his youth up: let him be your captain, and fight the battle of the people:
|
2:67 Բայց եւ դուք յարեսջի՛ք ՛ի ձեզ զամենայն զօրինակիրս օրինաց. նախանձայո՛յզ լիջիք, խնդրել զվրէժ ժողովրդեանն ձերոյ:
|
2:67 Take also unto you all those that observe the law, and avenge ye the wrong of your people:
|
2:68 Հատուցէ՛ք զհատուցումն ՛ի հեթանոսս, եւ հայեցարո՛ւք ՛ի հրամանս օրինացն:
|
2:68 Recompense fully the heathen, and take heed to the commandments of the law:
|
2:69 Օրհնեա՛ց զնոսա, եւ ինքն կատարեցաւ փոխեցա՛ւ առ հարս իւր:
|
2:69 So he blessed them, and was gathered to his fathers:
|
2:70 Եւ մեռա՛ւ նա յամին հարիւրորդի քառասներորդի ութերորդի. եւ եդին զնա ՛ի շիրիմս հարցն իւրոց ՛ի Մովդիիմ. եւ կոծեցան զնա ամենայն Իսրայէլ զկոծ մեծ[56]:

2:70 And he died in the hundred forty and sixth year, and his sons buried him in the sepulchres of his fathers at Modin, and all Israel made great lamentation for him:
|
